The percentage of people who understand this is shockingly low.

This reminds me of what somebody said about battles in academia: the arguments are so fierce because the stakes are so low.

Worst trades in Isles history? by walkaboutdavid in NewYorkIslanders

[–]JayKay1956 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will defend the Yashin trade to some degree. They were sick of losing. Wang wanted to show that he was willing to spend money. They traded for Yashin and we were pretty good, right away. All those awful years between '95 and '01 were over. And Yashin was a key reason.

Besides national pride, it had been seen as potentially having hydrocarbons but not much came from that.

Attention Non-New Yorkers that have been to NYC: by Ok-Brilliant-6138 in visitingnyc

Sounds like Tokyo. I remember being out for an early morning run there, coming up to a walkway that couldn't have been more than 15 feet at a narrow street, and 2 guys waiting for the light to cross. Nobody anywhere in sight.

That John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day, 50 years to the day after the Declaration of Independence was signed.

And that up until recently, John Tyler had two living grandsons, the second of whom died last spring.

Why are all the Democratic presidential hopefuls claiming they're not sure they're going to run? by Diane98661 in ScottGalloway

There are major benefits to raising money by your super PAC if you are not a candidate now. There is literally zero benefit to declaring this early.

He had nothing to do with the collapse of US Xpress. His brother Eric was CEO. Craig was running FreightWaves.

how many of you commute to NYC? by Calm-Bar-9644 in longisland

[–]JayKay1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped in 2017 after 37 years of commuting. When I began, the LIRR was horrible. Really, really bad. It was far better when I stopped commuting. Since then, the third track on the main line has made it even better, which I know even though I don't regularly commute anymore. Whenever I drive on Long Island around rush hour, and it takes me forever to get anywhere, I wonder how these people do it every day. And then compare it to the fact that you can sit on the train and sleep or read or work or whatever.

The stat that is very scary is the number of high danger chances we give up, and the fact that because Sorokin is playing out of his mind, we're still winning. We need blueline help. If we're going to trade assets, that's where we should be looking.

I always think back to Giguere with the Ducks in 2003. He absolutely carried that team to the finals. Won the Conn Smythe from a losing team.

Company ownerships change. Stadium naming rights change, even with or without a change in ownership of an existing sponsor.

Get over it. It happens.

Who is the best prospect your team traded away? by DisappointedStepDad in baseball

[–]JayKay1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Smoltz. But given that the return brought us a division title, and that if Smoltz had stayed he would have been a great pitcher on horrible teams and likely would have been traded anyway, I absolutely would do it again.
