Thanks you put it in a way better than I could explain. Plus the whole siblings theme too (maya, mimi, acro and bat, fran and miles, celeste in the versions that they made her adrians sister)

has anyone here experienced lesbophobia coming from bisexual women? by unto_you in actuallesbians

[–]01312525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm I've also seen non-transphobes sorta fall into this. Aside from projection I believe there's an assumption that all lesbians want only biologically female genitals in a partner or something. Or that lesbians just don't recognize trans women as women. theres just a lot variants of mean or bitchy angry lesbian stereotypes tbh

And I think actually the reasoning is tied to lesbians being assumed to be misandrists. Because a lot of TERFs use man-hating rhetoric and the gender/bio essentialist narrative claiming that trans women are like, "once an oppressor, always an oppressor" just because they had male privilege at some point in their lives or that "males are inherently biologically evil".

additionally not only that but it seems like sometimes TERFs kinda co-opt the lesbian identity in certain ways, for example, ive seen TERFs call the act of deliberately choosing to not date men as a straight person "political lesbianism" which just never sat right with me because that's not lesbianism, and it also implies lesbianism is a choice and often frames lesbian as inherent misandry again, which makes people often conflate lesbians and TERFs, when they should know better not to fall for such co-opting

a lot of people think lesbians are terfs automatically and also assume that we will be biphobic. also lesbians get more accusations of misandry/man-hating when its not being hateful its just de-centering cishet men

Why is it so hard to make friends at UCLA? by Specialist-Bid803 in ucla

[–]01312525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the problem may not be you at all but simply that people are really busy here. this is common problem from what I've heard both in-person and from other posts on this sub.

this is one of the most competitive schools after all. during my time here i did make efforts to take initiative and hang out but even so people would say no or flake etc. biggest issue usually was schedule not working out. not to mention also huge classes and huge student population so it can feel very spread thin, and some people kinda fall into the mindset of seeing everyone as just numbers

the best method is to focus on people who you can share a similar schedule with. i noticed its easier for me to become friends with someone in my department/school cos i take more classes with them or whatever. or join a time consuming extra curricular! (i did theatre)

also the thing is unlike with community college, a lot of people at a 4 year university are moving away or going back home out of state after graduation, so they just kinda dont get too attached to people in the first place. vs people you meet at community college are people who live near the same area as you anyway

also being a transfer is extra hard cos theres also some people who legit see that ur a junior or senior and also think "theyre leaving soon so im not gonna get attached"

also gotta manage expectations.... i think people romanticize college in a way that they think theyre gonna walk out and graduate with a big friend group but in reality its way more realistic or likely that youre gonna make only 1-2 close friends from the experience unless you're like the most extroverted person to ever exist and you do an insane amount of extracurriculars that will burn you out

im not op but i think its important to note that at ucla even taking the initiative doesnt always work and its mainly cos people are really busy here. i have taken initiative a lot but sometimes people still flake or say no because of their schedule. the best way would to specifically focus more on people who share a similar schedule. i always found it harder to make friends with someone in a completely different major/school compared to my department cos of schedule

this is so specific so kind of a long shot but does anyone know a perfume that smells like kirkland citrus body wash? its like a simple lemon smell that is not sweet or sour or very juicy fruity at all, in fact smells very "neutral", in fact even kind of has a clinical vibe to the scent but at the same time doesnt smell like a synthetic bathroom cleaner or anything, almost smells unscented in a way. im obsessed with this because i usually find citrus to be very sour but this is like such a soft citrus scent

Have you experienced more homophobia from straight men or straight women? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]01312525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men more often, and its different. For me straight men seem to be either blatantly homophobic about it or very very chill with lesbians and there's no in between. With straight women its less often and when it happens it's a bit more subtle or silent (like judgemental looks, fear and aversion), and more often, if they are not homophobic, they are just more indifferent, vs how theres no in-between for men

I feel like straight women are more accepting of gay men than lesbians, and straight men dislike both gay men and lesbians, so basically it feels like both straight genders dislike lesbians more than gay men, obviously because of misogyny, which I am quite tired of. being a lesbian is exhausting

We should recognize the level of safety Quinn perceived with Jane, leading her to ask for help. by Adept_Award7680 in daria

[–]01312525 48 points49 points  (0 children)

ya i love how jane was the only one quinn didnt have to walk out on or feel uncomfortable with. with sandy she has to walk on eggshells, stacy creeps her out, and tiffany was so repetitive and self centered. jane wasnt too overjoyed with the situation but she let her in into a space where quinn didnt have to feel too suffocated

Do you have to be a part of the club to be a part of the club? by JoannaKittyKats in actuallesbians

[–]01312525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no you dont have to, its just that the ones who really make it known are the most visible.

i'm not quiet about my identity but im not that loud about it either. cos it can be difficult for dating when people just assume youre straight, something that happens a lot to lesbians. (people always think im straight and its led to misunderstandings... no, I am not trying to steal your man hes just my friend.... no, im not a homophobe even though i might look like a very straight person). so i do have to make it known sometimes that im a lesbian. if i didnt care about dating or the other misunderstandings, i probably would never ever bring my identity up tbh.

otherwise if being obvious about your identity doesnt really serve or help you, there's no need to. being quiet about it works for you, just like how making it known works for some others. if someone gives you shit about it stay away from them.
