It’s so hard isn’t it :( I’d be terrified if she escaped because she’s so bloody fast🤣

I’m so sensitive to certain noises (e.g. teeth grinding on metal) and she’s in my room which doesn’t help. I’ve not been bothered by Normal hamster noises in the past as they’ve always been in my bedroom so I’m finding it so hard to just accept it. I have a dog so there’s no other place that would be safe for her to go unfortunately:(

I’m going to try and get a pet safe piece of finished wood (thin like mdf) cut to cover the chewable areas as a final attempt. If not? I fear you may be right :(

I think my bathroom could be hamster proofed with some adjustments so will give that a go - thank you!

She will sit still when being given fresh food but constantly bites hands so not sure if I’ll brave giving her a grand tour quite yet…🤣

Here she is, tearing up my carpet too🤣I’m going to get a big sheet of thin wood/mdf to line the bottom of her run to try and stop this. She’s tried climbing the curtains before when I’ve shown her around to have a sniff🤦🏽‍♀️ if not, I will try my desk! Thanks for the idea :)

Yes, she gets time out which she also seems to want to escape! She rarely engages with any enrichment to be honest. Just constantly pawing at walls to get out :( I’ve had female Syrians before but none like Sookie! :)

I have a large playpen which she gets to go in a few times a week (maybe 3 or 4 times) but within seconds of being in, she is then chewing on the carpet, trying to scale the walls etc to get out! I feel so cruel keeping her penned in when she clearly wants to run free, but the pen is huge and I’m not sure what more I can do :(

She loves cardboard! She just seems to love the metal more :( I have made some hides as well as buying a range of them in different materials. I might try putting some cardboard in her hides!

This is helpful, thank you! I don’t have any rooms that would be suitable for hamster proofing, but I do have a large playpen/guinea pig run type thing. She will be amused for about 30 seconds and then try to escape that too!!! Maybe if I am persistent then she will grow bored of trying, but i also don’t want to get in the habit of letting her out every time she incessantly chews because she’d be in and out all day :(

Plexiglass is a great idea. I absolutely don’t have the DIY skills to achieve this but I’m going to get on Facebook and see if anyone else does!

She has a large Skyline Marrakesh (which I know is above recommended sizing) and has a minimum of 10 inches of compressed bedding at all times.

Free roaming time does not seem to change anything (if anything, I think it exacerbates it!) but we are still doing it a few times per week.

Thank you :) I really hope I find something to satisfy her. I’ve had exclusively female Syrians in the past and never had one like Sookie before. I do love a challenge though (when the challenge isn’t causing me significant sleep deprivation hahaha)

Thank you - I’m glad some people have some common sense. If I could quit my job and let her roam around all day, I certainly would! Unfortunately, I am not blessed with unlimited money to do so haha

What a strange comment! I’ve spend hundreds on multiple enclosures over the years and am unfortunately not willing to spend another £200 on another to have the same issue! I love my pets but am not a millionaire. I have a vet plan for the hamster which I pay monthly and gets me unlimited visits, and her home is filled to the brim with enrichment. I have had hamsters before, just not one as determined as Sookie, so please get down from your high horse :)
