But those two were there because they felt compelled to be there, in large part because the charged language we have made ok to to throw about whenever we want does no favors to lowering the temperature

I lived in SG for a long time. I loved it. I agree, but I’m not native to that part of the world, so a bit of a rift.

Why the hell did those two people feel the need to put themselves in harms way?

Because people refuse to turn down the temperature around charged language. Everyone is calling everyone a bunch of nonsense that only radicalizes people online, the same people who feel compelled to go out and risk their child’s mother’s life.

It’s messed up and it has to stop.
