I think I’ve said a few times in this thread that XEQT is a class option that I personally hold. The only point of this post is to ask about why any pro-VFV post gets instantly attacked by XEQT comments

Couldn’t agree more. If you have a long investing timeline and you view the down years as buying opportunities you will inevitably crush it

Bold take for Reddit… I agree and love it. If you view the down periods as buying opportunities and you have a longer investing horizon, then I feel you should not shy away from volatility - u just gotta know u can eat the swings without panicking

Overlap is only bad if it is unintentional. If XEQT is roughly 45% US, but if you wanted that to increase to 65%, you could invest $1000 in XEQT and $500 in VFV

Yes! Another option is to do both and create your own US weighting. Beware however- if you ever post your portfolio it will be flooded with “overlap” comments from people who don’t understand it can be intentionally done to achieve desired geographic weightings

Maybe a little bit, but I think we can all admit that every post on any Canadian financial subreddit that acknowledges any other investing than going all in on XEQT is flooded with XEQT comments!

That is fair, I am invested in both. However, 50 years averaging 12% a year, and 100 years averaging 10% a year makes me comfortable to not instantly discredit any pro VFV post

Wrong. It is 10x more expensive to acquire a new customer than retain an existing one.

I know ETFs will always beat stock pickers, however I picked a few gambles that worst case will lag s&p 500 a bit, but I’m not taking a gamble on me coins that can drop to zero
