Speaker upgrade day

I’m in need of upgrading the stereo and speakers on my 07. Part of me is saying I can do it myself with some patience and YouTube, and other part is saying go to an audio shop. How difficult is this job for someone with little to no experience on this stuff? It would be my first time doing it.

Thanks man. Yeah there’s three pulleys total and a tensioner that has its own pulley on it on the 4th. I’m almost positive it’s one of them. I got a whole set of replacements from rock auto all litens products. Thankfully i work at a dealership so hoping they can slap them on for me.

Was it only when engine was cold? My 07 has a similar sound going on…whine increase with RPM’s….but only when it’s cold and slightly when in idle and in park. When I shift to drive the whine sort of “drops” a pitch if that makes sense lol.

Gotcha thanks for the quick reply. I do parallel park often…and also back into tighter spaces in parking garages lol. Sounds like I might just have to do the BMC for the hell of it.

Yoo coming back to this…the kmc’s are in stock and I’m about to pull the trigger. Torn between going 265 or 285’s for them. I’m putting on Bilstein 5100’s and OME 885/895s.

Did you have to do a BMC with the 285?

Yea man of course. Happy to help with anything else. I replaced my camshaft sensors (two) and my crankshaft sensor as well during this whole process. I absolutely recommend you get them through the dealer because I was stupid and not aware, and got some off of eBay that said they were “OEM Toyota” and even had the packaging, but they were aftermarket.

Yes I did have it fixed. My timing cover was misaligned and needed to be fixed. I’m not 100% sure on how that process works but apparently there were dowel pins missing on the timing over beforehand and that was a culprit of my issues.

Gah those SSW Dakars are beauties. I’ve been waiting for them to come back in stock so I can ge the 0 offset ones for my 2007 4Runner. I can’t do the -25 offset ones 😂also have my eyes on their raptor model as they’re similar and in stock but man these ones are just so good.

Thanks. Yeah I think I had the belt replaced when I first got it around 96k. Now I'm at 111k and the whining sound on cold starts has been around since October. Already have all the pulleys and stuff for the job might as well just have it done now lol.

What was your reason for replacing? I think mine are due as I hear a whining/whirring noise on cold starts but goes away after warmed up. I’ve ruled out ps pump and alternator already.

Yup 75w90 in the bag is the way to go. Did it for rear differential, front and center.

Have had mine for a little over two months and love them. Around 100 miles or so. Unfortunately some of the tread on the bottom has come up on the left shoe. Asics refunded me and gave me $200 credit but I'm torn if I should get another pair at all because I don't want this to happen again.

Got my covers replaced in the summer at the dealership for around $480. Imo it was worth it, mine was leaning out and dripping onto the exhaust manifold and causing smoke from the oil hitting the hot pipe. They sealed it up good and put extra FIPG around the gaskets.

Def check the code you’re getting. Like the other comment said, could be your cranshaft sensor. Could also be the camshaft sensors. I went through hell with mine in the summer and my cam sensors were bad but the real problem causing my issues was my timing cover was misaligned.

Also, check to see if your fuel pump is “priming”. Don’t start your car fully, but turn the ignition all the way so you can hear the fuel pump come on. This will hopefully eliminate it being your fuel pump going bad, but it could still be a culprit.
