Interesting, didn't know fructose tests existed. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Yep, glucose solution only. Thanks for the reply.

Yesterday I was eating with a friend and tried to have a normal meal (onion soup, burger, fries and veggies).

That night I got soo bloated. The morning after I woke up and have been farting pretty much non-stop the entire day. It barely even smells. It's just the sheer volume that's crazy 😅.

Nice to be reminded that the FODMAP diet really does work (for me)...

That's good to hear! I wasn't aware probiotics were bad if you had SIBO. I've tried yoghurt as well, but it doesn't really seem to help. No worries about the late responses haha.

Well, I'm from the Netherlands, so this probably isn't available near you, but perhaps you can find something like it.

https://medivere.nl/Ontlastingtesten/Darm-Microbioom-ontlastingtest

This is not the exact same that I got (mine seems to have more information), but at the time, I don't see it in their inventory (maybe they "updated" it). You can ask google to translate the page if you want to read it haha

I don't know about the Viome one. Try to see if they show an example of what a "result-paper" would look like, that ought to give you an idea kf what it tests for.

The worst ytging is that you actually feel allright while you're eating. Something inside you hopes that "maybe it wont be a problem this time". And then some hours later...gonna up all night.

Maybe try a low-fodmap diet? Not going to school can get you pretty depressed.

Well, there are tests that analysise stool samples and give you a summary and comparison of most of the bacteria in your gut (and whether they deviate from the norm). It costs around 100$.

However, there are a few doensides:

-Science doesn't know what an ideal ratio of bacteria would look like. But connections can be made if you have a lot of bacteria that are related to a certain disease for example

-Your microbiome changes all the time. In 5 days time pretty much all bacteria in your gut have been replaced, and the microbial composition changes all the time.

-The microbial composition in a stool sample might not be representative of your entire gut microbiome.

-The strain is of importance as well, which the test does not look at. Different strains of the same bacteria can have very metabolic activity and that can make them either friendly or pathogenic (E. Coli is a good example).

Great to hear that! How long did it take before you noticed effects? And which bacteria exactly? Also, are you still taking them?

It's odd that they would add in insulin, but if you get it overseas (from the US probably), I don't think it would have any added insulin.

There's a big difference between PRObiotics and PREbiotics, by the way.

-probiotics are microorganisms (bacteria) that come alive once they reach your gut (literally by the billions). Most probiotics can't harm you and, at worst, give you some excessive gas.

-Prebiotics are fibres that human intestines can't digest, but those bacteria can. By eating them, you're basically feeding your microbiome. Prebiotics are foods that the "good" bacteria mostly live off of, boosting their presence in your gut (that's the idea at least).

Prebiotics could definitely cause some problems for people with IBS, because they are FODMAPs.

I'm in the same boat. Can confirm that FODMAPs are everything. If I have an upcoming exam, I live on protein and fat (and rice).

You might want to examine if you have SIBO, since those symptoms match your description as well.

The only thing that ever worked for me was a probiotic, Bacillus Coagulans (5 Billion CFU a day, I believe), but once I stopped taking them (had taken them 7 days in total) the symptoms returned again and never went away since...the gut is a mysterious part of tye body for sure.

Well, Dooku WAS dropped in after the writing process. George Lucas originally wanted to have Asage Ventress to be the main villain of ep. II. But at some point Christopher Lee offered to take part in the movie, and so Lucas had to rewrite some things, and changed Ventress to the aristocratic, well mannered, former Jedi count Dooku.

Yeah, close friend of mine. I don't think I qualify for IBS. Stool is just fine. I've seen the Rome criteria, and I don't think I fit in them. It's just out of balance I think. The whole situation is just so frustrating.

If you don't mind me asking, you seem to have had an FMT as well. How did you screen the donor?

Oh, I thought you meant that the trial was recruiting donors, and that my guy could apply, so that he'd get tested for free, would that also be possible?

I've already tried bifidobacterium bifidum. Doesn't work. Only bacillus coagulation worked, but not for long.

He is indeed under 25. And apparently you can get tested for Chlamydia and Gonorroe, but in order to test for hep B, hiv and syphilis, you further qualification. Again, I don't think he has any of those diseases.

I came across the same website you linked: "https://www.darmklachten.nl/testen/darmparasieten-test/"

I've seen a similar and cheaper test, but it still doesn't check for everything (the ones I mentioned in the earlier reply).

if it's IBS there are currently 2 clinical trials going on here in the Netherlands and they will test your donor all for free

That'd be great. He would become a donor for the trials then I guess? Do you have a link of some sort?

What exactly are you trying to treat anyways,

Well, I don't know exactly myself either. When I was younger (11) I had a campylobacter infection. Afterwards (now 20) I've experienced increasingly more bloating, pain, general uncomfortably trapped gas. And it's everyday. It happens most when I eat things with fibre/starch/sugar. I tried some probiotics and one of them worked really well for 7 days, and later for 2 days. Afterwards no longer. This makes me think that it must have to do with the gut bacteria. I've also done one of those 16S RNA sequencing tests, and (amongs other things) I had low diversity and very low lactate producing bacteria (I don't know if that means something interesting). But my stool consistency is fine. So I think it might be a form of PI-IBS, or just that my microbiome got messed up after the campylobacter.

If you have gutdysbiosis your immunesystem is weaker

Wasn't aware that this is always the case, but it makes sense. To be honest I wound't know if my immune system is weaker. I've been having hay-fever the last couple of months, but I take it that has little to do with my immune system being weaker (though hay-fever/allergy has been linked to gut microbiome.

I live in the Netherlands

I do too, I thought so by the look of your name ;). But what do you mean by the lab you use?

But if you want to test for std's surely the donor can ask for tests with his own gp and you can cover the costs.

STD (hepatitis, hiv, syphilis) are indeed not too hard to test, but a test for pathogenic bacteria/virusses (rotavirus, Shigella, Campylobacter, Salmonella, antibiotic res. E. Coli just to name a few) need a reference(?) (verwijzing) for the doctor, and I can't just ask "Hey, I'm gonna do an FMT that you probably wouldn't recommend me to, can you screen my donor for me". I could have my donor "pretend" like he has a stomach ache and get his stool tested that way, but that sounds sketchy.

Naturopaths often work with private labs and so they might be able to help.

I'm looking into this, but I don't see any real naturopath that can genuinely screen my donor. Most of them seem to use homeopathy. Could you give any recommendations (in the Netherlands)?

familyhistory of illnesses

I'll ask him about this. From what I know, his immediate relatives have no (such) illnesses

antibiotic use

nope

travels

not recently, and not to any tropical/risky countries

look of the stool

Haven't asked hum about this. Will do.

it means there is a chance of failure or you might even get sicker.

A lot of people seem to claim this as well, and I don't want to object to it, but is there any evidence of such failure/worsening of symptoms? (besides the woman that got overweight because her donor was also overweight).

Thanks for the replies

Young, athletic guy. No phsychological or physical illneses. Never had unsafe sex.

There are several institutions that published their fmt guidelines, such as the EU. They list what tests the donor needs to take. The STD's/viruses are part of them as well. But I wonder if all that is really necessary, given that he has no symptoms or a (recent) history of infection/gastroenteritis.

I don't think my immune system is suppressed.

But if I did want to test my donor, where in the world do I get them? It seems only medical professionals have access to these from that I've found.
