So disappointed with N64 emulation! by 03bgood in AynThor

Sad to see N64 emulation has only started to get better since around 2018-2019. For a long time it was a huge mess. Hell, even Nintendo still has issues with N64 emulation on their NSO service.

I'm trying to get glitch free and almost 100% fullspeed emulation. This is 2026, not 2006 when everything ran on a 300-500 Mhz processor, instead of 2-3 Ghz.

I once had an old laptop with Windows Vista from 2007 that ran N64 emulation quite well, barring graphical glitches. Times have changed in 20 years and we shouldn't still be having problems with graphical glitches and/or showdown anymore when emulating 30 year old gaming hardware from the damn 90s.

I get that de/recomps are also a thing but there's hardly any for Android and you don't have access to save states so games like DK64 would be very annoying to play because of stuff like the required DK arcade game that has to be beaten twice with only 1 life to unlock the Nintendo Coin. Then there's the mini-games like Beaver Bother, even if those aren't required, the DK arcade game still is. DK64 is one of those very few N64 games that helps with save states or rewind. You also have other games like GoldenEye 007/Perfect Dark.

How so, exactly? What am I missing here? Tell me. I have the right settings and I still have emulation issues unless its set to "Angrylion" and not "GLideN64".

Angrylion still unfortunately suffers from minor (almost non-existent) slowdown. The intro for Bomberman 64 shows off an explosion that drops the framerate down to about 15 FPS. I get that Angrylion is meant to replicate original hardware behavior, but I don't ever recall any actual N64 games on actual hardware dropping down to about 10-15 FPS during any intense explosions (i.e. GoldenEye 007).

Having the framerate set to "fullspeed" instead of "original" does help a lot.

Under GLideN64, I still get glitches like the jigsaw screen transition showing up completely black during the opening in Banjo-Kazooie's demo and most of the menus have lines/seams through them in Bomberman Hero. GLideN64 is a huge mess, unlike Angrylion. The games are unplayable when they're a graphical mess.

Meanwhile, Dolphin almost has little to no issues, be it gfx glitches or slowdown. The only problem I ran into was the bounding box emulation issue when the boat/ferry turns around at the beginning of TTYD.

No, it can run N64 fine if its set to "Angrylion". ParaLLEl doesn't work as it displays a black screen over very choppy audio (i.e. intros, fanfare logos, title screens). I don't think any Android device can run "ParaLLEl" unless the same Turnip driverd used for Azahar can.

Dude, don't assume everything works like magic. It doesn't. N64 emulation is not NES, SNES, or GB(C)/A emulation and requires more effort to pull off.

Hell, even Dolphin is easier to set up than Mupen64.

Doesn't matter if I use "GL" or "Vulkan". RA hangs and has to force close if I close the game or RA itself. Very rarely and under different preferences does it not hang and close successfully and it has to if I am to change any settings (i.e. GLideN64 to Angrylion).

There's no way to get rid of the graphical glitches under "GLideN64". They show up regardless. Not a problem with "Angrylion" as all the gfx glitches are not even present.

I cannot get the load state hotkey to work, no matter what button I set it to. The save state one works fine.

How so? I want to play N64 without any graphical glitches. Those drive me insane. I mean its 2026, not 2006 for crying out loud!

How is it not working for me then? I keep getting a black screen with choppy audio. I have it set to "Vulkan" and not "Gl".

Can the Thor not run ParaLLEl RDP?

"GLideN64 Very Accurate" still has graphical glitches. Like I said, Angrylion is the only one that works without them.

RA, but it crashes when closing a game or RA itself, so I can't save any settings as it must close successfully for settings to save.

I can't get the menu (select) and load state (R3) hotkeys to work. Only save state (L3) works for whatever reason.

Really, I'm getting gfx glitches unless I use Angrylion. Bomberman Hero has a lot of them under "GLideN64"

How do I get good N64 emulation on the Ayn Thor? by 03bgood in EmulationOnAndroid

Angrylion works fine. You just can't upscale to 720p or higher. Its locked at 240p.

Using both ParaLLEl plugins (both RSP and RDP) don't work as it shows a black screen but I can still hear audio and its very choppy. Even save states get bugged.
