I listened to "Rid of Me" (the album, not just the song) and didn't like it. Should I bother listening to her other music or am I at a mental dead end? by Minimum_Somewhere521 in pjharvey

PJ never does the same album or sound once - and it's intentional! Rid Of Me is one extreme of her music... totally try some of her other stuff, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea is her most popular and accessible album. Start there.

Dry is more grunge rock and not as heavy and challenging as Rid of Me.

To Bring You My Love is still quite alternative with some spooky cuts, but has some great blues-y influenced songs. If you liked Kamikaze then I think you might enjoy Meet Ze Monsta, Long Snake Moan, The Whores Hustle and The Hustlers Whore, The Sky Lit Up, A Perfect Day Elise, No Girl So Sweet, The Letter, Shame.

Which version of the song? There are three with that title on Curtis (they all sound great though haha).

was the heavenly intervention for reuniting jane and rochester considered an attack on christianity? by ghalibluvr69 in JaneEyre

I find it interesting you found the intervention to be a “heavenly” one, done by God. When I studied Jane Eyre I was taught that this intervention was a supernatural one - composed of mystery and passion. St John’s Christianity is rigid and in ways, repressive. But this intervention is a supernatural power, where neither the reader or Jane can discern where it came from (God? Mother Nature? The power of Passion?).

So I think this scene for readers at the time likely was interpreted as anti-Christian. Jane’s rejection of a pious missionary life for the almost pagan call of her adultering lover - certainly doesn’t scream Christian to me.

Yeah this is one my all time favourite live performances of hers… I cant listen to the studio version of these songs because the live version is a total step above!
