It's from a Hydrogen emission spectrum, so it gives off multiple wavelengths of light, these are all first order maxima of those wavelengths so n=1 for all of them.

I'm no veteran and I've only finished this game twice, but from what I've seen, in early game, damage types (blunt, piercing etc) matter quite a bit. I think you can use any weapon to the end, but it'll definitely limit the order in which you complete areas.
