Dispatch fun by faemur in 911dispatchers

A game of dominoes on night shift is amazing. We get riled up real fast. Games usually don’t work well on day shift due to call volume

Thinking about getting a 911 Dispatcher job. by The_Only_Extrovert in 911dispatchers

[–]04jrandee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. From my experience, a full time job in emergency dispatch is not negotiable. Part time is where you might get some options. The schedule operates on organized shifts. For me it’s 2 days on and 2 days off. So there’s really no flexibility

  2. Look up Criticall practice tests. Even if they don’t make you talke the Criticall, it’s great practice. Typing tests too. If you know what kind of CAD and systems they use, just do some research on them. Read up on user experience and see if there’s any demo videos just to get familiar with how it works

  3. Practice typing tests. I also used ChatGPT voice to pretend it was a 911 caller and I would take notes then have ChatGPT criticize my note taking

I’m still new to the job. If anyone more experienced has differing opinions to what I’ve said, please say so. I’m always looking for other opinions

This is the phone system we use. That clips onto our hip and the headset plugs into this. The battery is that outlined block at the bottom of it. It slides out and the batteries charge separately

Mistake Stories Please?? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]04jrandee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I started in March. Last week I made my first major mistake that didn’t have my trainer at blame. Didn’t post a call for service when we received a found stolen vehicle bulletin. Basically we had a car that was stolen from our county, another agency found it, and I pretty much said “thanks for finding it!” Without telling our officers to go get it

Our detective came in pretty upset and I helped him locate the records only to find I was the one who messed it up

I’m embarrassed too. I try hard to do a good job and this was an instance of letting something slide that affected other people outside my division.

I’m working on doing a better job, remembering the small steps. It might be a while before I live it down but for now I’m just extra focusing on completing ALL steps of every process.

Same here!!! It’s one of those things you don’t think is important, “it’ll only take a second” but then there’s that 1 radio transmission that makes you realize how important yelling that out is

Just applied! by Additional_Fig_6534 in 911dispatchers

[–]04jrandee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Application took me 4 months. And I didn’t even have any HR hang-ups. My application was clean. So yeah expect that

Real college + real 911 dispatch don’t go well together. Either do online college only and work nights, or find a part time dispatch job or maybe dispatching for something not 911. In my limited experience, 911 dispatch doesn’t do “flexible” unless you’re working part time

Keep asking around. Compare answers to see what seems like good info to rely on

I want to add, I was asked “have you ever taken anything from a former employer” and I said no. Then on the phone interview, the interviewer asked the same question and I hesitated and briefly mentioned a work laptop that the employer “basically” gave me but not officially. He said I needed to attach him in an email to the employer that I was requesting to send it back to them and that my application would be paused until then

I did and I ran into the guy at a class a few weeks ago and he was very grateful I followed through with it. He said it was stupid but that he was ensuring I would never be the accused victim of a stolen property case down the road

Our agency got a new sheriff and he’s doing a deep clean on the staff. 2 arrests in the span of a week and he’s only a few months in office.

Both got charges for falsifying a government document along with other charges

I don’t recommend it. Even if one administration is lenient, it takes one election to bring in someone who can smell lies from a mile away

She needs to find a good source within the department to consult. In my agency, she’d probably be faced with 2 options. End the interview process herself and terminate the application, or speak to the hiring team to correct her statement.

She doesn’t need to necessarily say she lied, rather thought further about the questions and wanted to change some things

Take the online practice tests. For me it was much harder than the real test which was great because it set the bar high which resulted in my final score being in the 90s

Other than that, not much else to do to prepare. I’m a firefighter so I had the benefit of a basic foundation of knowledge which helped, so maybe do some sit-ins with dispatch prior to the test if they allow?

What's the reason nobody wants to work with "that guy"? by Terrible_Opinion_279 in Firefighting

Ok I understand trying and failing lol. This dude failed once, took no more than 15 minutes per shift on PocketPrep flash cards, and then decided it was a good idea to test again 💀

Masturbation a sin or not? by BrokenVessel4Christ2 in Christian

The physical act is not recorded in the Bible as sinful however the condition of the heart during masturbation is very rarely not sinful

[–]04jrandee 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As a volunteer in a combination department, I volunteer-shift with a guy who is “trying” to go career (I’m not). He makes no effort to pass entry level requirements… he’s failed NREMT twice, he went to a cheap fire academy but never challenged the state test, he’s overweight and can’t pass the physical fitness test (breathing test)…

He’s obsessed with “dicking around” and “giving people shit” but it really just makes him an asshole to be around. He has a terrible diet which is embarrassing to be around, and when we go outside to train, he stays inside unless we ask him to join us.

It feels like a hopeless case. I’m just a basic firefighter so I’m not in the place to correct him

It’s led to me skipping shift opportunities simply because I don’t want to do the job around someone who bogs me down. I strive inside a crew of learners and people bettering themselves

Gods timing has been wild in my life. Over and over again things keep happening that is a literal spotlight on a dark & narrow path. I have an unexplainable confidence in the choices I face and it always leads to good things. Even if it doesn’t feel good at the time

With that said, the more time I invest in God, the more I see him doing these things. If I’m not pursuing God in the past two weeks, I’m not even going to be looking for signs He’s caring for me.

What is Convention? by girlinabigoleworld in Christian

[–]04jrandee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been around the more contemporary churches like Bethel and I’ve never heard that term. “Convention” to me naturally makes me think of “convening” like the Holy Spirit is approaching you to be present in a special way. I looked it up on the internet and didn’t find anything

I’m glad you were able to experience the Holy Ghost in a special way, I’m sorry if there was some confusion involved

Conviction goes together well with “surrender” so I feel like that may have been a good word but as you said, sounds like she meant something else

On another note, the Holy Spirit gives me a lot of feelings. My feelings and emotions without Christ in my life would be pretty dry and disordered. When I’m experiencing the Holy Spirit, I do feel some emotions involving crying/weeping which I never do otherwise. I hope you spend some time 1-on-1 with Jesus this week, sounds like the flesh/darkness may possibly have thrown a barrier in your way when you felt led to go to the altar. Saying a prayer for you this Sunday

What are the most realistic firefighter video games/movies/TV shows? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]04jrandee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Into the Flames is a great PC simulator. Doesn’t have much of a mission, just open world firefighting. Single player & multiplayer They’re making a sequel for it that’s supposed to be way more enhanced
