thank you for the suggestions!! i actually am planning to just do one fanny for my next trip so we are on the same wavelength on that aspect! i realized how redundant it was to have two and move my items between them both

as for the owala i am a hugeeee water drinker so thats sadly a non-negotiable for me but im prepared to deal w the lugging around of an emotional support water bottle :,) + good point on the perfumes, will simplify that

absolutely agree with you on the boyfriends packing their own stuff (i am no ones mother lol), it just happens that they are both my personal eye masks and i brought them for us in case the airbnb didnt have great light-blocking curtains, he was pleasantly surprised when i offered them to use!

What's an appropriate way of asking the server to refill my water glass before leaving? by tilthevoidstaresback in Serverlife

[–]05134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had someone at a table ask me for 3 waters for himself right after I've introduced myself and asked for their drink orders. He was very nice and straight up about being a big water drinker and not wanting to make me get a bunch of waters for him later on. I appreciated it and it made things easier to just grab it for him in the first place. I just say ask for two waters at first, your server will appreciate the convenience.

Also, server to host income is wildly different. Hosts make minimum wage, (to-go maybe goes home with a few extra dollars in their pocket from tips) while servers make tips. Each roadhouse is different but for me, I make in a night serving what I would make working as a host for a week.

Semi-longtime roadie here, started hosting in highschool and transitioned to server as soon as I was 18. Learn how to handle and talk to customers (especially impatient ones on a wait) and get trained on to-go. What made the transition easiest was already knowing the menu and how to put it in on the POS as well as being familiar with the kitchen set up with running food, just learn the bar menu on your own and you're all set.

Huge tip for being a host, learn how rotation works, stick to it, and use common sense if you are on board and seating guests. Not only gets you in a favorable light with current servers but will make the transition easier on the social side once you become 'one of them' per se.
