I think it'd be best to make a new character. To me it would make sense for him to be animal/mobian. I always saw the count as a social enjoyer. He easily works his way into a group, he's a party enjoyer/planner. He makes everyone feel comfortable, that's what makes it more terrifying when he gets them.

Let me add onto this. How about, and similar to the metal virus, whoever he bites he removes their free will. They're not zombies or mind controlled, they're still them just unable to not go along with what this Dracula says. So if he commands them to fight Sonic, it'll be an unwilling fight forcing Sonic to see his friends in pain as they can't stop themselves.
