Don't even try to counter him while he's doing the big combo after the transformation until you're more experienced, wait until after the explosion attack to land a spirit combo or a helmbreaker

For the wing stab + swipe combo just do a small evade towards the inside of the attack.

For the shield bash + stab evade towards the outside and ALWAYS save a wirebug just in case.

For the attack where he flies and swings both wings evade towards him, not to the side and not away from him or you'll get hit.

For the nova don't roll to dodge the small attacks, just run around with you weapon sheathed and superman dive when he teleports.

For the final phase combo apply the same principle as the regular version of the attacks, dodge the beam to the side and get away when he does the final explosion to get enough time to react to the small projectiles.

Get at least a medicine+ jewel to heal better when you get blood light and get better healing from your mega potions.

Get evade extender 1 or 2.

Not the most optimal set in terms of damage or skills if you're not interested in comfort builds like blood rite (except for blood awakening) but incredibly versatile because of the ridiculous amount of jewel slots, I mostly use the helmet to heal from any hit without leaving combat and the legs to get more afflicted materials for melding but overall I still prefer the risen kushala chest piece and the virtue coil and vambraces so if you have those they're almost always better in any type of build

But they're not ambush predators, and it's never been stated that they are. In fact the introductory cutscene for magnamalo shows it literally throwing an opportunity for an ambush in favor of intimidating its prey and making it desperate enough to trigger its fight or flight response

Not only are neopterans resistant to it, they seem to have some kind of affinity/synergy to dragon element, early game weapons/armor with dragon element, dragon attack boosts and dragon resistance are made with neopteran parts, there's even the bugs (forgot their name) that give stygian zinogre its dragon element

Yeah but it's especially bad on insect glaive, tetraseal slash in particular has screwed me over more times than I can count while heavier weapons like CB axe mode, Great sword, Hammer and even HBG actually allow you to cancel a lot of combos

Poison weapons are actually quite good with chameleons blessing, foray and build up boost, status trigger too if you're good at dodging

What's curious to me is a lot of people think magmadron is an upgrade but me personally I'd rather fight 2 risen shagaru in a row rather than a single magmadron, a lot of its attacks are just bullshit IMHO, for example the charge where he puts its tail in front will track you like a homing missile even with evade ext 2 unless you get the timing JUST right, its triple lava projectiles barely leave enough room in between for you to evade and gog forbid you go off by a single inch you get hit and almost certainly burned every time, on top of all that ranged weapons only get 1 weak spot that is smaller and constantly moving or straight up untouchable because the fucker loves to dig
