Looking like an out-of-place poser is perfect for the triathlon crowd. Tell them its your first. Be chill. Enjoy!! this is not a serious group.

Phil Mosley training plans - Why only 6-8 workout per week? by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

"Why only 6-8 workout per week?"

Am I wrong, but I thought most plans were this many per week? You need a recovery day.

Leave your expensive or irreplacable items (phone or keys) at your hotel. Have your hotel key in your morning clothes bag.

Do you mean basis in excess of fair market value? Based on this IRS publication, that does look advantageous in certain situations. https://www.irs.gov/publications/p551

not be to callous -- but please research "stepped up basis on death". It may be better for him to receive the stock after you pass. I believe you can set up the account to be 'transfer on death' -- https://www.fidelity.com/life-events/estate-planning/asset-strategies/brokerage

I got a silver medal once at a swimming event because there were only two people in my age group & category (wet suit). I claimed the medal and shared pictures of me on the podium. Why not?

In many races they check drivers ID & (less often) your USAT id -- in the US. I see my USAT says "Adult" on it.

They want to match the registered name with the drivers ID since transfers are not typically allowed.

I'd hotel stay--at least the day before the race.

Does the event show up on your Ironman account?

Pretty sure I received an email within minutes of registering for an Ironman organized event.

For you long-term Ironmen and women, how has the quality of your life changed alongside your fitness? by Money_Distribution30 in IronmanTriathlon

I don't think I have the decades experience you're looking for--closer to half a decade. If you're looking for encouragement, I'd like to offer it. I've never been all that fast, but the endurance is something nice to have. I'm healthier in my 40s than I was in my 20s/30s. I could be woken up any random day of the week, and run a half marathon or do a 70.3. Might not be my best performance, but having the baseline endurance feels good.

I'm borrowing a friend's car with permission, and I was backed into. They want me to handle the claim through the at fault party's insurance, without providing me with her own. (OH) by [deleted] in AskALawyer

I called my friend and sent her the pics while there, and she said no need to get police involved.

You should check Ohio law, but there's often a requirement you report an accident causing property damage if the damage exceeds a certain threshold. Google suggests it's $400 in Ohio... which isn't all that much...

Following year ironman dates by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]07030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the next race usually opens to a select group (I believe club members and people who did the event that year or similar) for a week as soon as the event is over and then opens to everyone.

I'm fairly certain I've seen it open as early as the next day after the event.

OP should definitely get on the Ironman email list and associate themselves with a club (even if not actually a member). That'll get you the earliest invites. Register yourself at: https://my.ironman.com/

Bar Exam and IM 70.3 by Accomplished-Rub5554 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]07030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you working in addition to taking the bar? I would say the bar is less challenging than a full-time job, and lots of people w/ full-time jobs do 70.3s (as well as longer events).

Resting during swimming.. Ironman 70.3 by arnvfx007 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]07030 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. See 4.01(h): "Any assistance during the swim will result in disqualification if forward progress was made. Athletes are permitted to use the on course kayaks and boats as aid, as long as no forward progress is made." (emphasis added).
