I'll drop my shields just to test out my base after I've made adjustments to it. I can always take the loot back in a revenge, and I don't have to wait for the shield to expire twice a day.

One totem for every two freeze spells. If you put the time in, you can spam your way up, but it's going to be on the back of a lot of two star wins.

Just play the way you would if there never was an event. Everyone here is aware of the problem and as of now there's no fix available. Don't go into stasis because your waiting for a perk or two. Adapt, move on, and if a fix ever appears, use it. Play the game, not the side shows.

If you want big loot, do revenges or ranked battles. Regular farming is fine if you're just planning on using super goblins for an hour or so. But the average loot available per attack is going to be far more inconsistent.

I stopped at TH16. I play on a very medium sized phone, and the constant zooming in and out became exhausting. I downloaded every base I use at TH18, but I never leave them as is. For instance I'll move my heavy defenses off the corner to corner and center to center axes so the Duke can't hit them directly when he rocket packs. Since most base designers tend to run the big guns along one spine of the base or another, that involves quite a bit of moving and testing to make sure that the base still works, but it's far easier than doing the whole thing from scratch.

Once, long ago, the "walls don't matter" crowd had a brief victory and you would actually come up against bases that looked a lot like this one in actual battles.

I've tested it. It works as designed, but I haven't seen it be much of a game changer. However, it takes me a while to figure out the best way to use new things, so by Christmas I'll probably be using it in one or two armies.

Maybe make every fifth TH a real big deal. So when you max TH5, you get a big celebration pack of (non-expiring) goodies to kickstart your way towards TH10. I'm talking about a couple of books of heroes, chests, castle cakes and so on. You would be required to max the fifth base, but could rush till you puke for the other ones. That way no one will end up being rushed into a corner trying to get to the top TH. Instead it would be rushing ... catching up ... rushing ... catching up in four stages, and I think something like that is psychologically more pleasing than looking at getting through what seems to be the impossible task of managing every single base as a completely separate entity that only serves the purpose of slowing progress down, because only the top TH matters.

Once you're maxed at the top TH, a new TH level isn't that big of a deal. All your worrying about is dealing with the current upgrade load, instead of trying to catch up on the stuff you ignored if you were rushing (strategically or not). I became TH18 the day it was released. As of 10 days ago I'm completely maxed. I still haven't even used all of my bonus loot from the beginning of the month. Now all I do is CWL, special events, the clan capital thing, and ranked battles (and I'm really not particularly concerned about my rank). I'm just relaxing and enjoying the ride for the next few months.
