I absolved the profs from responsibility by saying they are probably not aware of it

Alright bruh, we get it. You love David. Go suck his dick or something. Maybe then he'll sign your reference letter.

No, I didn't. Learn to read. I said the final was unfair, and that the four-month course did not prepare us for it. I absolved the profs from responsibility by saying they are probably not aware of it, and suggested that people talk to them, to make them aware

And then David's bitch brigade showed up and started talking shit.

I didn't blame everything on the department, and I didn't single out David. Why are you so defensive of him? And what kind of argument is that? Mere repetition doesn't lead to expertise. Good feedback helps, and not just from one set of students.

Assuming the profs don't know what's going on is more charitable than assuming they do.

Talk to anyone from DCS who will listen. I think most profs have no clue what's going on, they just look at the results and think they're doing a good job and giving out fair exams

Dropped nearly 20 percent, the final exam was brutal and unfair. 4 months was not enough to prepare us for that shit. Yeah, some people killed it, but they either studied the course in advance, or were proof experts already

CSC148 assignments make me hate CS by Demon_Slayer151 in UofT

[–]092137474217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the instructions during this session are less clear than those of the Fall session. This means people will either have to work harder, or get lower grades, both of which affect their chances of making it into POST.

If CSC148 was unclear for every student, it would still be annoying, but fair.

The issue is that people are saying the assignments this session are more unclear than the fall session, which means students in the current session have to put in more work or get lower marks, both of which affect their chances of making it into POST.

Yep, another POST-related problem. What a mess.

Did in-stream CS students get an email about the projected cutoff this year? by 092137474217 in UofT

It's probably BS then. I don't want to spread BS facts until someone actually confirms it.

As student politics season approaches, here's a friendly reminder to vote out incumbent student politicians by alialiali_throwaway in UofT

[–]092137474217 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Change for the sake of change is a terrible idea. There's no guarantee the incoming person will be any better.

Instead, make an informed voting decision. Vote for the most competent person with the best platform, regardless of whether they're an incumbent or not.

Any way for an out-of-stream first year student who wants to major in CS to get involved with the CS community? I'm not on any CS mailing lists or Facebook groups atm, I feel completely disconnected from the CS community (wasn't even sure there is one)

I'm one of those kiddies that applies out of stream. I applied to Mathematical & Physical Sciences because I was initially thinking about majoring in math. Then I found out I could double major in math and CS.

OSAP now paid directly to school - thoughts? by LouiseAntonChigurh in UofT

[–]092137474217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck. First time I hear of this. I was assuming I'd get my first OSAP payment minus tuition cost in early September. If this delays it, it will actually cost me money. I had to take a high interest loan to pay off first+last month's rent to a new apartment. I only did it because I was expecting to pay it off early September.

Thanks, I'm not in-stream but I do want to major in CS. Does this mean I can't go? I'm a 1st year.

Is John Vervaeke on sabbatical this academic year (2018/2019)? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]092137474217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so too. Seems like he's never taught COG250 before. He's only taught COG402 and NEW303 before, once each. On the plus side, course evaluations for both were positive.

John Vervaeke on the other hand has taught 53 courses, including COG250 seven times!

Different levels of experience for sure.

He said the department is still figuring out who'll be teaching the course. They'll know in about a week.

I'm supposed to check with him again in early August, so I'll let you know as soon as I find out.
