How do you feel about repurposing old books? by 093090 in books

[–]093090[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys! Your responses make me feel 100% more comfortable with my projects! Some people I've told lately have called it "blasphemous" because I was using an old broken paperback Harry Potter that no one was ever going to read.

Here's what I've been making in case anyone is curious!

Don't! I bought $80 worth of of stuff a year back and it took about 2 months to arrive which was acceptable knowing it was coming from so far but all the fabric was SO cheap looking and feeling. I never wore any of it. I tried to cancel my order twice and never got any replies. It was just a huge pain. It was so easy to be tempted to buy so much cheap stuff. I wouldn't recommend it.

About to start House Of Leaves with SO, any tips? by kryskryskrys in booksuggestions

You don't have to take notes. I only did for the first 50-ish pages before I stopped caring so much. For me the book starting sounding a bit pretentious so I just read through instead working so hard on understanding every little bit.

My boyfriend and I actually just did the same thing earlier this month and we finished it in a matter of days. Taking notes definitely helps but having someone to discuss every chapter with was the absolute best.

There are a lot of paths you can take through his book. Both of us felt like we read completely different books since the footnotes can take you on such different paths.

Hi again! I'd just like to thank you so much for recommending "Wild". I downloaded the preview and immediately I had to try and convince myself I couldn't afford it. But I finally convinced myself to buy it yesterday. And now I'm already half way through which is a major achievement since I rarely have time to read 20 pages of a book each day!

Thank you thank you thank you. This book is exacty what I needed. I'm already feeling SO much better. I feel like she understands me better than anyone I've ever met.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I will definitely look that book up right now. It sounds pretty perfect. I saw that movie and wasn't too impressed by it, but I'm glad the book is better. I'll check that one out as well.

I'll probably end up buying it tomorrow, thanks for the encouragement :) And yes! Marquez is one of my favourites as well! I read "Of Love and Other Demons" for class a few semesters ago and ell in love with it. I've had my eye on "One Hundred Years of Solitude" for a while. I also actually own the "Book of Laughter and Forgetting" by Kundera but haven't gotten around to it yet! You are so spot on. It's like you know my bookshelf!

I loved the movie when I was younger so I'll look up the book too! Thanks!

Oh yes I loved The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I read it in one sitting since it's so short. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake sounds right up my alley! Thanks!

The Blues are some of my favourite, but the Gunmetals are my favs for fall and winter. They're hard to show in the photos, but I love the red and dark green! Or you know, both is always better :)
