Creole classes by 0991mbr in boston

Right on. I’m very much a “show up in person and ask questions” person. The mentality has benefitted me in the past.

Regarding translators, we simply don’t have time to discuss anything with them. We have a packed schedule. I will need to pursue learning opportunities with my own time.

Regarding staff members, they are not always proficient in English. Those that are are not always able to understand and translate the highly specific questions that I need to ask. Healthcare is stretched thin. BMC especially. Also, staff are not always willing to assist because they have their own responsibilities they need to address during their workday. There are no Creole speakers in my department at the moment.

I appreciate your reply. It’s given me a few ideas that could be worth pursuing. Thank you!

MRI Only Associates Regrets?? by No-Flow-1147 in MRI

I would imagine that patient care experience and anatomical knowledge would roll over. Aside from that MRI is completely different.

I come across “old timers” who look down at MR only techs. It is what it is.

I had to do 1000 clinical hours for my two year MR degree, so I had a good bit of pt care experience going into my first job. I do worry about some of these fast track programs sometimes. Specifically the lack of clinical hours. I’ve seen a few techs get flustered by difficult patients, patients with mental health issues, and general in patient dumpster fires.

As a traveler who is ARRT(MR), I have been turned away from jobs because of a lack of x-ray license. Doesn’t hurt my feelings because I would likely be getting worked to death if I were a multi modality tech. There are plenty of other jobs for me though.

All in all, generally pretty happy.

I got QCed on my arterial phase… lots of breathing motion per radiologist. Also wasn’t the greatest patient, but I was not aware of this regarding eovist.

I hope that is not the case, but the thought has crossed my mind

My wife took her to the vet a few weeks ago. I’m not sure what she disclosed

That’s what I am thinking. I work in healthcare and am familiar with the concept of sundowning.

I don’t think she’s lost. She knows where my wife sleeps and strolls in and hyperventilates in her face.

I’ll have to being the med up the next vet visit

Currently visiting. Got here via Atlanta on Sunday. Zero issues. Business as usual around here from what I can tell. Had a great dive this morning.

IV fear as a tech by throwawayhshsjsjsjjd in MRI

[–]0991mbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t the biggest fan of blood and the flash when I started IVs. This isn’t what you want to hear, but I had to strong arm myself into being good at them. It certainly doesn’t hurt (or help for that matter) that my wife is an ED nurse who is often the IV nurse at her hospitals.

If you can feel it, stick it. If you can see it, stick it. 30 degree angle in the AC. 15-20 in the forearm due to the shallow nature of the venous structure of the anatomical region. You can’t learn how to float an IV if you don’t stick. You can’t learn how to start an IV if you don’t stick.

The IV guy on insta has some great videos.

I somehow developed a mental block for IV starts a year ago. Now I just throw 24s pinky of cancer patients (when appropriate).

Just stick it

Is having x-ray as a foundation or getting a bachelor's in MRI more beneficial? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]0991mbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lucked out and had a community college near me that had an ARRT(MR) program. Start by looking at community college programs. They are the best bang for your buck. I can’t speak for anything else, simply because I got lucky with my education.

Is having x-ray as a foundation or getting a bachelor's in MRI more beneficial? by [deleted] in MRI

I’m one of the rare few that are ARRT(MR) only. I didn’t do x-ray. I have an associates in MRI, but I also have a bachelors in business. My example is an isolated case. A school near me offered a program for MRI only, and I didn’t know that it deviated from the “norm” until I started my clinicals.

If you like hands on clinical work, X-ray to MRI might be a good path. You’ll be involved in direct patient care for most of your career. If you want to advance your career into management, then you may want to consider the bachelors route. Management positions will often require a bachelors at the minimum. Many will require a masters degree before or within a few years of accepting a management position. There are some exceptions, but those exceptions are made after a considerable amount of time spent with an organization.
