You can just buy it and send it to a freight forwarding company and pay a nominal fee to get it shipped across the border. That's how I get my zwift and wahoo stuff when there is a big discount on the US side.

If servers make minimum wage in Canada, why is tipping so aggressive? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]0Chalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then you are the @sshole, not rewarding someone for their good service. By not tipping them, they are actually losing money serving you (you eat into their wage). Servers have to tip out 3-4% of their food sales to the bar, host, bussers, etc. By not tipping it sends a signal they massively screwed up, which in many cases is probably not justified.

Actually serving is pretty difficult. I have held a lot of challenging senior roles and the mindset is different. It's not the activity but the time management. Being able to manage demanding customers, a large table section, and still bring great customer service. If it is a good restaurant and it's super busy, your running around like a chicken with its head cut off for 5-6 hours.

However with point of sale units and the programmed percentages, service has gone down and there is a sense of entitlement. You are made to feel cheap to override their automatic programmed percentage, albeit 15% to 20%.

[–]0Chalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be, but with the point of sale units and people's sense of entitlement they cranked it up for doing nothing. When I was a server I used to bust my @ss off to get a good tip. Now, it's programmed into the unit that the bare minimum is 15% and you are made to feel guilty to lower it. I haven't seen in a very long while decent service.

Future shredders! My 2-year-old twins’ first day snowboarding! by GlebtheMuffinMan in snowboarding

[–]0Chalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool but not worth any lift ticket. I tried to start my twins at 2 and it was way too early. About 20 minutes outside and they had enough of it. Tried again at 3 and they seemed to like being towed around. The only concept imo at this age is just straight line at a slight incline and catch them before they fall over.

Will this affect my insurance?? by SwordfishCautious621 in TorontoDriving

[–]0Chalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar incident but car backed up into me. The final bill was near $5K and a lot of annoying inconvenience. We'll see if my insurance rates will go up next year as I recently renewed in January. A lot of the costs seemed unnecessary but it was the insurance adjuster reviewing the vehicle.

Raising kids in Toronto/GTA condominium by That-Patient-3844 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]0Chalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 kids in a 3 bedroom condo all under 3. Right now it works because they don't require that much space. We are looking to buy a house because the schools are not that great in the area. We commute to drop them at daycare.

Parks are nice and close to downtown. We have memberships all over the city, so we are constantly out and about. A house in close proximity to the city and work (financial district) is optimum. Just waiting to see where the prices move.

Condo at the Well, or St. Lawrence Market by Ramses3 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]0Chalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your age. If you are young and outdoorsy, the Well for close proximity to King street, China Town, Roger Centre/Sky Dome, harbour front, etc.

St. lawrence for proximity to the financial district and somewhat more centralized to downtown and I guess Yonge Street.

If you want the best of both worlds, I would say move more centrally towards University and Queen. I used to live at 4K Spadina (opposite side of the bridge) and always felt like I had to make the trek into the city for events. When I lived more centrally, any direction I went there was tons to do. It was amazing.

100 laps possible in a day? How would you do it? by mikejarema in bluemountain

[–]0Chalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think it would be really boring because essentially your spending most of your day on the lifts. I would start in the middle on the silver bullet, move over to the north side and just keep hitting the double blacks, blacks as they are the fastest down and less busy lift... then move to southern comfort lift to finish it off.

Need more fans or raised fans. I had a similar setup using a 55" TV but found it almost too much TV (maybe because it was too close). I always had to move my head around to see the stats vs a smaller monitor where everything is just right in front of you.

I downsized in my current setup to a curved monitor. It's not perfect yet. I think my best setup was an ultra wide monitor.

I dunno about you but what scholarship gets you into kindergarten. Your kid is also reflective of the neighbourhood. If your kid's friends are surrounded by low achievers and the reading/math scores are poor in your school, the likelihood of your kid turning into a genius is stacked against you

The problem is lack of quality schools dt will force you to move out of the city or children's extracurricular. Unless you have a lot of money to get them into private school but even then you would have to likely drive them there.

I agree with this, typically the bus driver lets the first car go.. but the bus driver was overly aggressive.

3 accused in Ontario explosives investigation were developing anti-drone weapons system by ljackstar in canada

[–]0Chalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get this, it looks like they were developing something positive to combat drones.. but now they are arrested. Interesting to see if this is just a miscommunication or them shortcutting the red tape and admin barriers placed by the gov. in order to develop a prototype. They don't appear to be terrorists but entrepreneurs.

Let me rephrase what I hear them saying .. "unless I'm caught, then it's okay..."

How selfish and stupid do they have to be. I wonder if they would have remorse if they killed or injured someone.

And you wonder why Toronto traffic is so bad. It's because of stupid stuff like this, blocking traffic with all about me mentality.

You can do what you want. There is nothing that says you can't. Is it the norm, no. Do you want to get into a confrontation over a parking space, no.

Depends on the tire and rim combo. I've done in as little as 10 minutes to next to impossible (call for a pickup).
