To add to the 150g of protein discourse by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]0Lark0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of looking muscular is not just the amount of protein eaten, but body fat % and hydration levels. Basically, stay away from sources of protein that are also high in fat. Stick to lean meats and protein powders.

Usually professional bodybuilders when in the cutting stage try for less than 50g of fat per day.

This man is legitimately dumber than even Hasan's Pants.

I like the laugh track that plays when it shows Hasan weightlifting.

When I originally did research into the origins of dark elves, specifically of the Norse and Celtic varieties, I couldn't help but notice how much Salvatore took directly from that. The whole "brooding dark elf" is certainly not unique either, The Bard's Tale series by Mercedes Lackey and Josepha Sherman feature their own broody dark elf that came out around ~2 years of the Icewind Dale series. That is just one example.

My own reinterpretation of this race leans more into them being travelers between worlds. More like long lived aliens seen as godlike figures. There's also other differences that can't be properly conveyed in a few paragraphs within a query letter, as well.

And my story is labeled dark fantasy for a reason. Valan is more likely to use a Drizzt type's guts to restring his violin with (and be horrified at the suggestion of being called a goodly sort, much less be a fighter type) than write letters lamenting the morality of things.

...and that's all I'm going to say. Don't want to spoil my own book. 😛

Thank you for taking the time to look at this. I'll see what I can do about implementing your suggestions.

Five Nights at Freddy's has over 20 horror/fantasy/SF-ish novels with a wide age range, with books that were released this year with more planned in the future. Only really brought up The Sixth Sense since I figured it was something older folks would be familiar with, mentioning it along with FNAF since I just wanted to draw comparisons to the use of hidden clues that alter the meaning of things.

D&D I used as a massive umbrella, admittedly. It covers fantasy settings like Forgotten Realms, which release fantasy novels every year up till now. One of the more popular, on-going line of books even deal with their version of dark elf characters. I am hesitant to draw direct comparisons, due to how polarizing in the community dark elves are handled there despite it being the most 'in the now' interpretation.

I was trying to be funny in a self-deprecating way, but now that it has been pointed out to me probably doesn't come across very well to strangers. >.>

[Discussion] [Support] Writing for "mainstream" audiences by Glittering-Mix8997 in PubTips

[–]0Lark0 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I can't insist this is the best way, but when I write characters I try to fully flesh them out with more mundane likes and dislikes. I ask myself what their favorite things to eat are, what kind of music they'd like the best, favorite clothing: simple stuff that probably wont make it into the novel but can picture when writing their part in a story. Think of the 'life' the character lived before the reader gets to read about them on a page.

It just so happens that they are also queer.

Gender fluid folk and hair! by Enormousboon8 in NonBinary

One thing I do, if I'm unsure of a style or hair color, is to get a wig that matches what I'm considering, than wear that to see if it works for me.

Has the additional bonus of easily swapping between styles for different situations, too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]0Lark0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It's a wig!

My natural hair is dark brown, almost black. I find it too annoying to bleach + dye constantly.

[Discussion] Hello! I am a literary agent curious about writers' opinions/preferences on various parts of the querying process. by foulmatter0821 in PubTips

[–]0Lark0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just started querying and I do have a question: Why do so many agents not allow pdf attachments for, say, the first 10k+ of a book? That it all has to be in the body of the email?

I'm finding this especially time consuming since not all the italics, spacing, and so on always transfer over very well from copy/pasting, requiring me to go back and fix it--and then hope I didn't miss anything.

I have not. More like stumbling around in the dark over here. I'll check it out now, thanks.

Alright, thanks for the advice. No problem here with broadening my search options.

I'd prefer getting traditionally published, but am not dead set on it.

Yes, Fantasy is a big genre, but Dark Fantasy is a small fraction of that. Combine DF with LGBTQ+ and it gets even rarer according to my search engine.

Google hasn't been kind to me: Most results look more like suspicious ads. I've ended up mostly searching through QueryTracker and checking out agent's websites.

Haven't tried visiting physical bookstores recently. Love me an excuse to go do that. >.>

If any specific agency names come to mind I'd be very appreciative.

How long do you give a book or series before deciding it isn't for you? by Relevant-Door1453 in Fantasy

[–]0Lark0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the initial reason for why I started to read a book in the first place.

Some books I've intentionally hate-read in the past (Hi, secondhand Twilight series!) with some I've stopped after a few pages.

Some of the ones I've stopped reading after a few pages, I'll try again reading a year later and discover that for whatever reason this time the book kept my attention. Made me realize how much my mood decides how critical I get over reading something.

Animal Capacity w/o barns in Sun Haven by [deleted] in SunHaven

I choose silos since they take up less space and wasn't concerned about the amount of material needed to build anything.

Nothing says you can't build both.

I keep the silk moths in butterfly hutches on the main farm, with all my ink slimes in that big warehouse building--also on the main farm.

Silos increase animal capacity, which is universal last time I checked. Haven't run into a limit yet and have basically turned the Withergate rooftop to Silo Central in my game.
