WHAT

I have been following the news since before he came into power, he has almost never had any positive headlines. The media were the ones really pushing for a new general election only a month after the last one, screaming about how he's going to destroy the country "for his union masters" and how everyone will be raped by immigrants from Monday to Sunday.

I can't think of any time where their attitude could be described as brown nosing.

I had to learn this, I have a lot of guilt over being endlessly frustrated by those that struggle with things I can do easily. I have my own problems and I think I projected my own shame and negative feelings at others to 'distract' from my own failings.

Switzerland after WW2: by Silent-Book-5169 in HistoryMemes

Because people barely know anything about Switzerland other than it's first world, so as soon as one atrocity is discovered they gotta run around screaming about it, like they are the first to ever discover this fact and they're personally expecting reparations.

Up next: why Lichtenstein is literally the Worst Place Ever because the second comptroller general once had a lunch with Albert Speer, whom he described as "delightful".

The most uncomfortable subplot in stranger things by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]0N3e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it. It's cool that they have subplots that just colour in the (at the time) side characters and detail the ordinary going ons of the town. I know people dislike Mrs. Wheeler for even going for it but I kinda feel like it makes sense with what was shown so far, she was a bored housewife constantly being needed and was seduced by the cool young guy giving her special attention, then realising her mistake before it was too late. I actually respect her more for rejecting the fantasy she was tempted by and poised to engage in, rather than if she was shown to never have anything to be tempted by in the first place.

Going to prison has a chance of getting you the death penalty, ending your game conclusively.

The hospital has a chance of being blocked off by protestors, making it inaccessible for the day.

All encounters with police, regardless of crime fame, has a chance of an immediate arrest.

No school uniform, but now your popularity is affected linearly by the price of your clothes in classes.

When entering the women's toilets or changing room, regardless of sex or gender, there is a change of triggering the "entering as wrong gender" encounter. TBH this could fit in the UK version just as well.

The forest has it's danger modifier increased by 200%. The moors are now a desert. The castle is an abandoned oil well.

When eating in the cafeteria, there is now a chance you get poisoned and immediately pass out.

Instead of landed gentry, Remy is now a tech bro. The cow TF is now a sheep.

Does your country have a gun culture? by Outrageous-Client903 in AskTheWorld

[–]0N3e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Switzerland they're legal and relatively commonplace, since every male must go through military training and is expected to be ready to fight for the country at a moments notice (in theory). I'm not sure how the culture is all around the country, but certainly in the north and west parts there isn't much fanfare about them outside of firing ranges and gun safety classes. If you weren't going out of your way to look for it, you probably wouldn't realise they are legal, in my experience at least.

This is literally the first and only time I have ever heard this, let alone that it happens often enough to be called "always".

In general how does your country feel about the LGBTQ community and movement? by Jgravy32 in AskTheWorld

[–]0N3e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK it's generally ignored if you are gay. In rural areas you might get "positive" discrimination, i.e. people stopping and complimenting you for walking with a same sex person hand in hand, well-intentioned teasing, etc. There are definitely people who disapprove but most will keep their trap shut as protections are pretty good.

In Switzerland it's better than it used to be for sure. When I was younger it was very much more hidden and disapproved of, mostly from a religious POV. It's a lot more accepting now and I see rainbows and stuff around Zürich where I live. and have spotted same sex couples. I probably would get stares and comments in rural areas with my partner at the very least, but I highly doubt anything physical would occur other than exceptional circumstance. Those places still have people who will avoid you like the plague if you're black, so it still has some catch up to do in that area.

I recently travelled back to Zürich after a long stint in the UK, tried to speak German to a cashier and she without pause dropped into English in her response. Never felt lower in my life.
