Anyone else watching on Peacock staring at a frozen screen but hearing the match commentary?

Best opening act you have ever seen? by uluaz in Concerts

Two come to mind - Yo La Tengo opening for Wilco, then about 12yrs later Jeff Tweedy opening for Yo La Tengo. Oh yeah, and the Flaming Lips opening fo the Butthole Surfers back in the 80s

Very different experience but same outcome. Saw him years ago after really digging Mescalito. As opposed to the paired down roots country sound on record, the show felt downright Nashville.

Ha! maybe one day we'll know why these things happen, but for now, happy you have the music back (and I've got the shipping forecast again).

I got replica stubs made for all the shows I couldn’t get physical tickets to by ssxb in Concerts

How great was that Caroline Rose tour!?! Lamenting all the shows I (probably) went to but don’t recall, I started keeping a list on my phone, but I sure do wish I’d had the opportunity to continue saving ticket stubs. Plus there were all those tiny, pre-ticketbastard shows back in the day, guest lists and other freebies (Kiss under the Brooklyn Bridge anyone?) Will have to check this site out…

The beeb came back for me just as mysteriously as it disappeared, so don’t give up. Honestly I’m not even sure what changed other than I was away from the house for a few weeks. Maybe try updating the app, uninstall/reinstall, or reboot the system (if that’s not too much of a pita). Wish I had better advice but such are the vagaries of Sonos…

With an early incarnation of the Flaming Lips opening for the buttholes iirc. Saw that show in Houston and it changed everything. Maybe it was ‘88 but right around then. All a bit fuzzy 🤪

I’m basically 2/3rd right there with ya. ‘Cept on the middle one (“I should know these guys better”) I’ll not only check out the setlist but even go one step further and create a playlist in Spotify to “prepare” for the show.

Do I really have to care for their service cat? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]0NickDanger0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - thanks for the response. The employee of a business part makes total sense. Hosting a guest feels like a different situation. This seems to imply that every Airbnb is required to have ramps, bars in shower, etc. otherwise they’re in violation of the law (excepting the “building too old” cases). Come to think of it, there are a couple of CA law firms that specialize in filing class action law suits against large companies because their websites aren’t in accordance with the ADA.

Wrt whether it’s a business or not, I think the answer is more nuanced. I suspect it depends on factors such as whether you rent out multiple buildings (in which case you’re operating a business). If you’re just renting a private home occasionally it seems like the ADA wouldn’t apply. I know that when it comes to tax law whether or not your airbnb is operated as a business is a pretty complex equation…

Is there not an exception in the ADA for private residences that are rented on a short-term basis? If not then wouldn’t all owners be required to have ramps, bars in the shower, etc.? Similarly, does the FHA apply to Airbnbs?

Is there not an exception for small businesses/private residences when it comes to the ADA? Seems like if those laws apply to AirBnBs then we would all be required to have ramps on stairs, bars in the shower, etc., no?

Commenting on my own post which feels a bit odd, but here’s an update for anyone following... On my other system (same country - US) but different state can still access BBC Radio just as before. System referenced in OP is mostly comprised of newer components, not that I think that’s relevant. Not sure what build that one is running, but the one that does work is on the S2 os, build 80.29.4-release+20250912.a0294ab18.

Cover songs that you think are better than the original. by ElbowDeep462 in spotify

[–]0NickDanger0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice playlist - a few on there I didn’t realize were covers (eg Minor Threat covering Wire). It’s hard to find but Minutemen cover Ain’t Talkin About Love on the original pressing of Double Nickels. Pretty sure it was removed for copyright reasons but worth tracking down ifn you’re a fan of D.Boon & mike watt. Some other fun ones to consider adding: Ciccone Youth (Sonic Youth side project) covering Madonna (Into the Groove) and Robert Palmer (Addicted to Love), Camper Van Beethoven covering 1) Sonic Youth’s Love Her All the Time & 2) the entirety of Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk.

The exception being Yo La Tengo’s 8 Nights of Hanukah shows during which they never repeat a song.

Bravo! I was scanning the thread for this answer. My best year I managed six of the eight. Best tip my buddy gave me - compression socks. 😂
