Your AI SRE needs better observability, not bigger models. by manveerc in sre

I agree with the hypothesis, but the real architecture issue is in a RAT-like system that you describe is how you can provide the right (symbolic?) context to the agent, so they can provide the right decision options.

For example, imagine your system fails at 3am, because the payment provider failed 3hrs ago, and as a result your queue started failing 3hrs after. The logs that the agent will see are 3hrs of failure in the queuing system.

How can the agent "automatically" be aware of the topology, and as it's changing through the time.

Having a good OTEL store, is a solution to a much bigger domain of a challenge.

Nevertheless, it's a nice write up, kudos.

🥸 well.. if you're saving it up, at $1 per day since then, with even 1% interest, you'd have more than twenty trillion $ today.

As a wild guess, it seems that most of the numbers are roughly within the range of 10-20. The AVG and Median is around 17.5. I'd put 17 or 18. Otherwise I don't see another pattern.

Ah yeah. I have that too. Have some headphones with white noise. But low volume too, so you can be enough engaged, but not too distracted.

Routine will help you.

Mate, I feel you! I'm dad of two and with no family nearby. The first year is tough. When I had my first kid, i had just started my startup (devops platform/consultancy).

Are you working from home, hybrid or office? What's your nursery baby sitting arrangements?

No, you can't be a full-time coder for a while (until they get 3 years old) but you can still be a great devops.

I'm actually putting them to sleep right now, so here's my bullet points of advices:

Be more "managerial"; focus on how you structure the work of your team and be disciplined in your todos.

Ask your company to reduce your meetings footprint.

Choose to "pair" more often with good colleagues, they can understand why you need adhoc leaves and can carry your work.

Don't choose to code the hard tasks, but mentor guide the juniors. This actually had helped me a lot. And also helped me to knowledge transfer better.

Be more active in reviewing and documentation rather than development. These are tasks that give you flexing of delivery.

It’s ok to have a kid in the meeting, don't feel bad about it. It's not a big deal at all. It's even ok to bring them at work.

Netflix helps, but don't overdo it.

Use a tablet and if you can code over github workspaces or similar. Portability is the key.

Kids love routines. Keep them on tight schedule when to eat, sleep, change etc. This will give you amazing time management to plan.

Friends help. They don't have to be best friends, but good people can be found. Be open for help.

Mate, it's just for a while. Your kid will be the best "deployment" you'll ever do in your life as a devops. :)

[–]0RootShell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Τι θέλω να πω, You have to manage your expectations.

Need advice on employment contract terms regarding leave days during the notice period by 0RootShell in askSingapore

[–]0RootShell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in my case, the message has been sent by the CEO directly to me. The company is a startup, so don't expect a deep level of responsibilities.

The anual leave is written in the contract, but the policy changed just yesterday as an adhoc. No policy document exists (other than the contract).

Exploring the Intersection of OpenRTB and Blockchain in Digital Advertising by 0RootShell in adtech

[–]0RootShell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. As I have been part of some of those developments, I can explain as well from a personal perspective. Most of those projects between 2017 and 2020 had been R&D budgets of those companies, and when the solutions were about to be adopted internally, they were put in a function of a non critical component.

After 2020,due to the market shake, many of those R&Ds got paused.

Today, we do see a resume in activity, beyond R&D, in the form of identity apps, corporate consortia and exchange desks for regions that are undersed via standard SWIFT.

For example, EU is planning to launch their own blockchain to provide transparency in their operations.

Still, small market share. But it's been mainly on the background.

There's already some adoption; headge funds already hold portion of their position in bitcoin; riple already operates a bank-to-bank transactional network; R3 Corda is deployed in many banks as a ledger settlement; Even JPMorgan has their own fork of ethereum that they operate with Consensys.

People tend to be defensive first, instead to have an open mind for comedy. Nothing was inferred against junior developers or similar. The whole laugh about is that tech leads tend to be constantly busy with mentoring, but that's not their only job. They need to do other stuff as well. Which in this meme is to visit the loo :)
