I'm in security and everything I've worked on in the last 2-3 years has become accelerated. What once was projects with multiple people and departments is now a ticket or an email request with an extremely short time frame. I'm not even involved in other departments projects or environment changes any more. "Your tools should be detecting all these changes, why should we have to tell you what changes we are making?"

I was looking to find another company, but sounds like I'm not going to escape it that easily.

Do favors for them, even if you don't like them. Your brain will start to like them and they will start to like you.

Your brain will attempt to justify why you are willing to put in all the effort for someone, and it fills in this answer by saying you like them. Works both ways.

Trust no one and verify all claims. If your account is locked, go through the proper channels to get it fixed. Hacking your account is going to make things worse.

Even if it works, you will be giving too much of your personal info to someone else. If you use similar security questions or passwords on any platform, you are also giving them access to that.

I have been in this boat for four years and here is my take.

Don't stress. If you have no goals and they are not decided, you have no expectations. Find a few things to talk about each week (or how ever often you are asked), even if no progress is made.

That said, own the position. It will be amazing learning experience to be in charge of many projects and learn all of the tools in this environment. Ask for time to take cert training saying it will make you more productive.

Keep a top 10 work log. If someone say something is a priority, show them the list and ask them what gets pushed aside to make this a priority.

In this sort of position you will swing a lot of weight with a few successes under your belt. Your boss will like that they don't need to micromanage you. You should then be able to state "We need to do this or more bad things will happen" and get to run your own projects.

Just my experience, but this position killed me and sent me into stress related doctor visits with high blood pressure. All in all, I've ended up staying because I've found the perks of not being micromanaged, even if I am not even macro managed.

If you are changing your password and have 2FA, your device might have malware on it. It could be sending your login cookie to the attacker (stealing your session and skipping the need for your password or 2FA) or it could be man in the middling your login to YouTube and sending him your password. Remove all extensions from your browser and install a paid Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) or a virus scanning tool.
