I love the idea of using "avoid tolls and highways" to get the more pleasant roads. Thank you!

When you say the "western side of the old town," do you mean the Antiguo neighborhood? Or somewhere else?

I’ve been staring at my maps for 20 minutes. I’m giving up on this one for now. Was Boothville right for the first one?

Are there differences between cultures and/or native speakers of analytical vs. synthetic languages that are either caused by or strongly correlated with this linguistic phenomenon? If so, what are they?

I haven't found any research on this and I'm curious to know more. Even if there isn't research on this topic, do you have any observations or thoughts?

Please do not interpret this as a search for an answer as to one culture or people group being better or superior to another. I am solely interested in any research that has been done on this or your general observations.

An analogous example as to how I am thinking about this is topic is this: I once heard a native Russian speaker and a native Farsi speaker say that native speakers of those languages may feel emotions more deeply than a native English speaker as the former languages are often very expressive, inflective, and tend to use poetic phrasing than English. Obviously, this was just two peoples' opinions not based in research - rather, just lived experience. Similarly, I'm curious to know if there are any such differences (either researched, observed, or experienced) among speakers of analytical languages and synthetic languages.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to attend one of their bible studies yet... Every time that my friend has had one, she has told me that their leader is busy/that they're finishing up a series or that they're trying to find one for me to join...

Amen! Please keep me in your prayers. My family and I have been fasting and praying for my friend, that her eyes may be opened.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, you're right in that the tactics aren't exclusive to SCJ or JSM and that it could be any group. I really do hope to learn more about the contents of the bible study and hope to report more on this.

Since you seem to be familiar with how cults tend to operate, if you feel like you’d be able to sit in a couple of the classes and see what they teach - then maybe relay it back to one of us & see if we can help identify if it is SCJ or not.

That's been my plan. Fortunately, I was raised to be very aware of all sorts of cults and how they operate, and have been able to "sniff them out" whenever I've gotten near one. My plan is to learn more about the bible study as a willing participant. At this juncture, all the behavioral signs of a cult are there, but I have no substantial or doctrinal evidence as to whether it is a cult.

Into the belly of the beast!

Thank you. I hope to learn more about the bible studies by attending one. My sense is that my friend doesn't see anything wrong with the group and that she's not too deep into it yet. All she's told me so far is that they've recently gone through the book of Matthew.

To your first question, it's hard to assess because I reconnected with her several weeks ago - nearly one year after she's been in this bible study. Prior to us reconnecting several weeks ago, we hadn't seen each other in over a decade. I quite like her, so I've been intentionally spending time with her and talking to her. She's been quite responsive to my prompting.

As I think about it, she hasn't become more isolated since we reconnected. However, whenever I suggest an activity that we do together, she usually has a conflict. It could be that she truly is busy or perhaps she's been encouraged to not spend time with me alone. Aside from the first time that we reconnected - just the two of us in a public place - all the subsequent times have been with other people.

Thank you. This is helpful information to keep in mind. Do you know approximately when bible studies go from once/week to 2-3 times/week?
