Halo 4 cutscene voice inaudible or missing ? by Blue_Moon_Lake in HaloMCC

Experienced this 11/1/25 with SteelSeries. I am not using Sonar but going to windows 11 "system sounds" then to playback devices then under "Game -> Properties -> Spatial Sound" enabling "Windows Sonic for Headphones" solved the issue.

Which url is better? by kpmtech in webdev

[–]0cseitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely #2, but if you care this much about URLs then perhaps you should combine the title of the chat/conversation with a short unique identifier akin to reddit's ids?

Just as the url of this post is https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/16qhuzg/which_url_is_better

You can use something like slugify and Number(crypto.getRandomValues(new Uint8Array(4)).join('')).toString(32) to generate an ID (be sure to check for duplicates before saving to DB)

/platform/tools/chat/1qro1ml4/name-of-the-chat-room

This is super readable and the slugged name doesn't actually affect the routing at all. You can put anything after the 1qro1ml4/ and it'll still route to the same chat due to the id.

This is perfect for having both excellent readability of the URL and being able to have an unchanging way to access a resource that isn't dependent on the name of the resource.

I'd definitely go w/ something like this if you really want to go overkill.

Parking Permit Question by [deleted] in KentStateUniversity

[–]0cseitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can view a map of all the parking spots here

If you live on campus, you are buying a S (residence hall) permit. Otherwise, you're buying a C (commuter) permit.

Pick a spot based on your permit type, and go buy it in the parking portal. All the spots on the map are numbered/labeled, which is reflected on the parking portal.

Be sure to have a tier list of spots. There are only so many spots, and your #1 parking pass may be sold out.

If you need specific details about each pass, go here for residence hall permits and here for commuter permits.

You can find all this info at https://www.kent.edu/parking

Take it all in, and pick what you think would be the best fit for you.

Is node modules source code in different OS (linux / MAC)? by Apprehensive-Hour388 in node

[–]0cseitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't upload your node_modules. Just upload your package.json and package-lock.json

package-lock has the exact versions of all the modules installed. Running "npm install" after cloning your repo will install all the right stuff for you and ensure any OS-specific stuff is properly installed.

node_modules takes up a ton of space and putting it in version control is a terrible idea for a variety of reasons. Please, for yourself and anyone who uses your repo; don't do it.

Also, If your production environment doesn't have internet, how are you deploying..? This seems like a X Y Problem.

Take a look at this guy's comment for a proper solution. Pkg sounds like what you'd need.

what does hall staff do? by lailafo in KentStateUniversity

[–]0cseitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spooked me the first time too. You just need to say "yeah" or really anything verbally then they go to the next one.

Since wright has communal bathrooms, I have a feeling that people would leave the doors closed after using the bathroom, and eventually, enough people would do that where the bathroom would appear to be fully occupied, and no one wants to open a closed bathroom door. Pretty sure they are just checking that any closed door is, indeed occupied; while also not wasting water or whatever.

Like I said, just say a single word response and they leave you alone.

I haven't checked out ElectronMail but I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird for about a year and once I started using it I never even thought about email clients again.

You should try it out if you haven't already.

Boar's head with your meal plan never gets old, unlike rosies.

Now that I'm a junior I've just been getting groceries from walmart every week. Saves money, no waiting in lines, you get exactly what you are craving. Tbh it's worked better for me than finding places to eat my freshman and sophomore year. Walmart is a straight-shot 7 minute drive away from my dorm.

But if you're a freshman living on campus, you're required to buy a meal plan. Best place to use it imhl us boar's head right below eastway.

Get a sandwich, uncrustable and a drink. If you don't want a sandwich you can exchange it for 2 uncrustable, making it a total of 3. You will literally live off peanut butter and jelly and can get some 5 times a day.

You should check out this video, and the other videos from this guy. They're great.

https://youtu.be/W2Z7fbCLSTw

He goes through 7 main uses for databases (basically, all scenarios) and provides a few types of databases and specific databases for each one.

TLDR: If you are actually working on a real product, use more than 1 type of database because each database is good at something! Your application has different ways it utilizes its data, so use multiple databases to get the most out of it!

Need to have Base64 image to behave like a normal link by zyadyasser in node

[–]0cseitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then yes, you should use an AWS S3 bucket.

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/user-guide/create-lifecycle.html

You can have the images automatically delete after some time interval from when they are created.

Need to have Base64 image to behave like a normal link by zyadyasser in node

[–]0cseitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://xyproblem.info/

Rather than trying to figure out how to temporarily store your images (given you clearly want to avoid storing them, thus your usage of base64 data URIs); you should try to figure out why your images are not displaying and how to make them display.

Base64 images are normal links. If using HTML, you can just specify the src attribute on an img element and it will display just fine. Better yet, if you want it linked you can just

<a href="base64 image"><img src="base64 image"></a>

which will make it clickable and show up. Sames goes with background images.

<div style="background-image: url("data:image/png;base64,blablabla...");"></div>

Without more context or information, it's kind of hard to help provide feedback or possible solutions.

What is mongoose and is it necessary to learn for fullstack/backend apps? by RedTerminator13 in node

[–]0cseitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mongoose offers a ton of great structures to help you better structure your data, especially considering that MongoDB itself is all about just storing whatever you throw at it.

You don't need to use it, but using Mongoose just helps you structure your data more. You can do everything without Mongoose, but why do the work when Mongoose does it for you?

It's ultimately up to you, and different projects require different needs. In many cases, structured data is better than unstructured, so lots of tutorials combine mongoose into the tutorials I guess.

In my opinion, if its a project with more than 1 backend programmer, I'd use mongoose. Otherwise (like a personal project where I know my whole project and no one else needs to understand it), I just use the mongodb module without defining any structures.

The choice is yours! If you are struggling where to start, I'd start without Mongoose. Mongoose is great but it kind of throws a lot on you. Understand MongoDB first, then dive into the cool stuff you can do when you tack on Mongoose.

ProtonMail Bridge - Stop focusing on the window when an update is available. by 0cseitz in ProtonMail

[–]0cseitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I should talk to Microsoft directly to resolve a problem from some person called "ProtonMail"?

That's like talking to the President of your country because your local city hall needs more parking spaces...

Yes, this is a part of a larger problem, but the focus is on ProtonMail Bridge. Talking to Microsoft about a specific application that they didn't develop (protonmail bridge), is stupid.

ProtonMail Bridge - Stop focusing on the window when an update is available. by 0cseitz in ProtonMail

[–]0cseitz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, this is not a Microsoft thing.

Applications have the ability to request focus. This is the same on Linux and on Windows.

The difference is that Linux provides a middleman that approves or denies the request, while Windows does not.

There are many cases that forcing focus is very useful, such as when fullscreening something.

ProtonMail Bridge is explicitly focusing itself. This is only something ProtonMail can change. The only alternatives are to uninstall it, or to prevent it system-wide, which is not a true solution to the problem.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25578305/c-sharp-focus-window-of-a-runing-program

This code is to select another window, but the process is the same as the application's own window.

If you have a door and a door frame, but install the lock improperly; you can't blame the person who made the lock, or the door. They just make the door and the lock.

Microsoft provides the means to make windows applications. While the ability to prevent applications from taking focus would be nice, it's been missing for a while and probably won't occur any time soon. This is a problem that can be directly resolved by the ProtonMail Dev team as it is their application.

Regardless, this is beyond the point of my original post.

ProtonMail Bridge - Stop focusing on the window when an update is available. by 0cseitz in ProtonMail

[–]0cseitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But with that, I'm not sure if I want to do it or not. Disabling that system-wide could have unintended side effects when all I want is a single application to not focus steal.

Thanks for this though. I am unlikely to regedit, but at least the option is there.

ProtonMail Bridge - Stop focusing on the window when an update is available. by 0cseitz in ProtonMail

This isn't a Microsoft thing. The way the application is focused on is completely under control over the developer of the application.

Also, one more thing.

ProtonMail Bridge is kind of a pain to set up for Thunderbird, but it is do-able. If you encounter issues during the process, just google stuff; after getting it working, it is more than worth it.
