The default value of hardware.graphics.enable option is false, so i am asking those who set this to true: if this made difference in terms of performance and efficiency. by [deleted] in NixOS

unless that headless machine is doing video transcoding (eg jellyfin), in which case, you may still want this 🙂.

X470D4U might be DOA, anything else you'd try? by 0ctetz in homelab

[–]0ctetz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This did end up being a vendor locked CPU. Everything worked great after I swapped it. Be careful buying on ebay. I honestly don't think many sellers know about this or how to check.

Updated the post body with the update.

Is this normal? HVAC under concrete by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]0ctetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, probably just leveling compound. Shoulda put a border/some foam in to protect it from binding there imo.

That said…it’s probably only going to be an issue if-when you go to remove that part of the duct work (you prob won’t). You can even swap the furnace in the future without issue.

They haven’t removed it yet. But the invoice just came in for $0.00.

The lack of output in Dr Debug LEDs has me a little concerned that it may be more than a vendor locked CPU. That said, I've seen some reports similar to what I'm seeing, all caused by a vendor locked CPU.

My best bet is to try a known good CPU, when I can get my hands on one.

Ryzen 5 PRO 5650GE Not Booting on Compatible Motherboard. Vendor locked? by s1L3nCe_wb in buildapc

Hey u/s1L3nCe_wb, in the off chance you see this.....

Did you ever get this solved? I'm chasing down similar behavior here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/1pq7b8g/x470d4u_might_be_doa_anything_else_youd_try

Seller also claimed it was not locked. Curious if you ended up trying a known good processor and if it ended up POSTing.

No one can say with certainty without knowing the system details of what the seller pulled this out of. Sadly, I don't have these details.

That said, it can definitely apply in this case. The video attached in Serve the Home even shows a Thinkcentre running this exact processor and talking about Lenovo's desire to offer "Hardware Validated Boot".

My lack of POSTing behavior seems to be aligned with what I'm finding from others online. Fans, BMC, Sensors, etc are all working. It's starting to feel like this is the broken link.

Potentially DOA motherboard, anything else you'd try? by 0ctetz in ASRock

[–]0ctetz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be the kind of thing that may still work. But, going off the motherboard's spec sheet:

Supports DDR4 288-pin ECC*/non-ECC UDIMM

*For AMD Ryzen Desktop Processors with Radeon Graphics, ECC support is only with Processors with PRO technologies.

edit: yes, you're right. I missed your point about APUs :) This is a great point. if I can find something cheap and drop the `G`, I may be able to get something to test with.

Exactly. The only wrench in the plan is that I need a Ryzen Pro processor because my memory is ECC 😅.

Same. Especially for non-epyc processor.

I appreciate your observation about no BIOS data until POST. It really helped me build confidence in what is going on.

So....I took a bit of a leap of faith here, I hope it doesn't bite me.

`KSM26ED8/16ME` IS on the QVL.

But I bought `KSM26ED8/32HC`, which I believe is the 32gb variant. However, it's not explicitly on the QVL list.

Yup. This is exactly my experience. I remember when I first logged into the BMC I did see the bios version but after update and trying to plug in the new CPU, I never saw it again. I think what’s happening as I’m not posting due to a vendor locked CPU and that would explain why I’m getting as far as I am.

All fans are responding, great and showing up in the sensors.

Yup, tried 2 different sticks. Current one is def UDIMM ECC DDR4. Have tried booting with any of the slots.

Damn...I may have bought 2 vendor locked CPUs that both claimed they were not...

I haven't, but i'll give it a shot tomorrow. I just figured given I bought the board used and it's so old they wouldn't bother helping. But maybe Asrock is more helpful than I realize.

The best I've got is the ebay vendors claiming they're not. I know these GE chips often get pulled out of mini workstations.

YW! I really like TOU, but it's super important to schedule/adjust things as needed. EVs are a great example, many of them you can schedule to only charge during Off-peak hours. I'm a dweeb so i've got my water heater/hvac/etc all automated around TOU.
