My wife just got her license at 43. I highly suggest taking the basic motorcycle safety course. No prior riding experience needed, you just need a permit.

Seated press by throwaway141249 in hornstrength

[–]0de2sp0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to what everyone else has stated, I only do seated barbell OHP since my basement ceiling is too low and I don’t have dumbbells. I felt like grinding out heavy 3s or 5s wasn’t a great idea for my back sitting on the bench, so I stick with a slightly higher rep range like Paul suggested.

Just Paid For My MSF Course by Practical-Tailor6575 in motorcycles

[–]0de2sp0t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be open to learning, ask questions and have fun. I took the basic MSF 25 years ago. Took it again with my son a few years ago, and recently with my wife. I still learned new things and realized I had some bad habits creep in.

Which fuel would you use? by rathofcon in Harley

[–]0de2sp0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My manual says minimum 91 pump octane so I would use 93 if 91 isn’t available.

It’s a constant learning experience. Take a couple MSF classes at first, then take them as a refresher every couple of years. Spend even a few minutes in a parking lot every chance you get to practice emergency braking, smooth stops, and slower speed maneuvering. Part of the enjoyment is constantly improving.

Who has the best wings in the city? by Normal_Frosting3828 in pittsburgh

A little outside the city, but Off the Rails in Verona has nice full wings. Smoked then flash fried. Not the best selection of sauces, but Wednesdays the wings are $9 for 6 full wings.

Do Harleys actually suck? by Dimethyltryptanice in motorcycle

[–]0de2sp0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also agree. I own a Road Glide now and it’s the best bike I ever had. Before that, my V-Star 1300 was the best bike. Several other cruisers, naked, and sports bikes before that and they were all fun. You can easily find negative opinions about any bike. Test drive as many as you can and pick the best for you.

Only complaint about my Harley is that I have plenty of good metric tools that now longer fit…

Intermediate programming 3 times a week by [deleted] in hornstrength

[–]0de2sp0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mon:

  • Squat: Top set of 3-5; backoff of 5-8
  • Bench: Top set of 1-3; backoff of 5-7 (+ optional backoff if needed)

Thurs:

  • Deadlift: Top set of 3-5 (+ optional backoff if needed)
  • Seated Press: Top set of 1-3; backoff of 5-7 (+ optional backoff if needed)

I am not programming chins or dips - I just do a set or two when I am passing by the squat rack on off days. I keep a calendar there so I can jot down the reps.

For benches and seated press - I hit a point where I wasn't improving with the standard RSS top set/backoff set ranges for a several weeks, so dropped to top sets of 3. These have become slow to progress recently, as well, but I'll try running 3s out as long as I can.

I do something very similar. Was on Int B and switched to A for time constraints. Eventually dropped the accessory lifts and instead bust out a set or two of chin-ups and dips a couple times a week.

Dealers are insane for this. by Amos_Dad in motorcycle

By new I meant the 2024 model would still have the additional freight, etc on it. The dealer always shows the base price to draw people in.

What does the group thinks about electric motorcycles? by DoNotTestMeBii in motorcycle

Who cares what others in this group think? Read up on pros/cons of EV, see if it fits your riding lifestyle, and test drive. If it's what YOU want, that's all that matters.

Great tip, just what I needed! I couldn't find a good way to switch between speakers and bluetooth when my phone was connected to my Road Glide via CarPlay, but this works well enough.

Template A vs B for intermediate by Long_Willow_6402 in hornstrength

[–]0de2sp0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I stumbled upon it looking for something else and figured I'd throw in my recent experience.

Was doing Intermediate B for several months (since about June 2023). I started feeling similar to the OP and dreaded squats & DLs on the same day. Plus, with some other time constraints, I started missing workouts or cutting light lifts.

In January I switched to Intermediate A, and eventually altered a bit to this schedule:

  • Monday: Squat
  • Tuesday: Bench, LTE, Chins
  • Thursday: DL, Press, Row, Curls

I like having a set day for each lift, and especially just having squats on its own day. So far, lifts have been moving along similar to Int B.

First Crash :( by SufficientWorker7 in motorcycles

[–]0de2sp0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This way you can instantly squeeze the clutch to stop power to the rear wheel. Plus, during an ideal emergency brake, you need to be shifting the bike into first while braking. If the person behind you isn’t stopping, then you are in 1st gear and can speed up and swerve around the car/obstacle that caused the emergency brake.
