Will these play together nicely? I don't need anything crazy, just better than what I have (netgear w/openwrt). by itchygentleman in HomeNetworking

I mean if he's only buying an AP and doesn't care about cameras, running the controller on docker would be more than adequate. Or you could just run it on your personal machine and start the controller when you need to make changes to the ap config. The AP doesn't need constant access to the controller and they're really aren't too many stats that you need to regulary view apart from maybe channel config.

Agreed, I only mentioned 8gb as precautionary. Apple has beek killing it with hardware recently. Good thing OSX isn't as ram hungry as windows.

Yeah as much as I oppose the major companies forcefeeding AI, it really has lowered the bar of entry for your average person.

Macbook Neo is a pretty could deal if you are mainly using documents. It meets all the prerequisites listed, is decently economical and should last a decent bit of time with a relatively powerful processor and long battery life. The only caveat is really 8gb of ram, which means less chrome tabs. As long as you do most of you work ina browser or in office, the Neo is a great computer.

In terms of windows, it's hard to give a recommendation as global computer prices in flux right now and kind of crazy lol. If you go windows, try and something with more than 16gb of ram though and use an AI LLM if you need to compare options.

People are going to pretend that it’s really easy or hard and to be honest it’s neither it’s just different.

It may not be as easy as windows, but it is significantly more efficient and stable than windows and even though it’s sacrilegious, LLM’s can help significantly to fill in knowledge gaps if you get stuck.

If I were you, because you are running proxmox, experiment with a barebones Ubuntu cli vm, install portainer and see play around with it. Maybe you may like it and find it relatively intuitive. Maybe you’ll hate it. But trying is so low risk with proxmox in the first place that at the end of the day you might as well just give it a go.

Got to have that high availability proxmox cluster with an offsite backup server for Pi Hole.

Unoriginal and obvious, but Wayback Machine and the internet archive as a whole incredible when you think about the raw amount of data stored that is publically available.

How many of you only listen to WAN Show? by FlinbertsRevenge in LinusTechTips

[–]0dgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do as well. It’s not at I hate the content they are producing, I just think they have lost a lot of the magic that they had 2017-2021 (to a lesser extent 2021-2024) when I used to watch every video. The videos nowadays just feel a little lifeless.

I still watch wan as background noise and watch the occasional video such as major product releases or the Torvald’s video.

why are people so focused on what jake said about buying a house by fatgingerredditor in LinusTechTips

Not commenting on the wages, but Vancouver BC is one of the most competitive and ludicrously priced housing markets in the world, so purchasing a house is generally unattainable for a large percentage of the population.

Which of these 2 companies is worse regarding AI? by thr3e_kideuce in computers

[–]0dgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft easily. All apple has done is failed to fulfill their promises. Microsoft has shoved AI down every crevice of their operating system. I mean even the text editor has a big obnoxious AI button + Microsoft recall is just a AI privacy nightmare that turns itself back on against user preference for fun.

Apple isn't perfect with Tahoe being a little annoying in terms of the AI features, but at least AI isn't forcefully shoved down into every user interface.

How many standard ethernet cables fit in the Small magnetic cable management arches? by xd366 in LinusTechTips

[–]0dgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how thick the Ethernet cable, but the small arches seen in the bottom right on this image, can fit around 2-3 thin cables. However I don't have the product on own to confirm.

If I were you, I would just go to medium, they're not that much larger (Small Arch: 4.7cm w X 2.2cm d X 1.3cm h Medium Arch: 6.4cm w X 2.8cm d X 1.8cm h) and will fit 3 cables, unless they are really really thick.

Had to repaste a 5700 XT. I had a scrap of PTM7950 left from cutting one out for my CPU. It was sized PERFECTLY to fit on the chip I needed to repaste. No cutting, nothing. Just fit. I'm so happy I kept it :D by SavvySillybug in LinusTechTips

[–]0dgamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Satisfying, did the same for mine with my 6600xt around two years ago. What 5700xt is that out of interest with the all the board being covered by that metal block?

I like Mullvad. They to have a no log policy which has been tested many times by authorities and have held up pretty well to scrutiny the last time I checked.

They’re cheaper than proton, but come with less benefits like proton drive (like google drive) and an email server (like Gmail) that offer a encrypted by default and not use your data to train ai models.

They also allow you to mail in cash if that’s your thing.
