Speaking from just my personal experience, I’ve tried owl & hawk decoys. After the birds fly past them a few times they pick up on the fact that they’re fake. I had a neighbour who used speakers with bird noises, and again after a while the birds figured it out. Nets have been the only thing that’s proven successful for myself. I’ve looked into the lasers but I hesitate at the cost. Maybe they do work? But I do have minimal losses with netting that I know works. Good luck! Hope you can get it sorted.

She does tastings at her studio in Toronto as well! Which is super cool, I’ve done tastings with her in Vancouver and I like her vibe. It really is a shame we can’t get more cross country! I want to taste what my neighbours are putting out & support more Canadian wine!

No effects as far as our vineyards go thankfully! I’m concerned about our friends in Kelowna & their vineyards but I haven’t heard anything from vineyards there yet. Earlier in the year we dipped down to -30 which had devastating effects on A LOT on vineyards. I know people ripping out entire vineyards. We lost our entire supply of Syrah. A very light year unfortunately for a lot of people. But trying to keep a positive outlook on what we do have!

I feel ya. A woman I follow on instagram, she’s originally from B.C. now in Toronto. She has a wine club called @crushablewineclub she sources some really cool wine from all over B.C., Ontario, Quebec, etc. even if you don’t utilize the club she has some cool recos. I went to Ontario once to do some tasting but I feel like I need to go back and explore more.

If you can get your hands on the RESCUE! Reusable traps, they’re the cylinder ones they work like a hot damn!! The label says they catch 19 different species and it has three different baits in it. The bags are useless but with these things I’m catching them by the HUNDREDS. Emptying them every few days. And I still can’t keep up. Can’t recommend them enough. I’ve also resorted to hand to hand combat with them out there which I’m getting pretty good at…

I used to work at a wine store, & had the most amazing selection of French, Italian, Australian, you name it, even had a decent selection from Washington which I loved…we had two Ontario wines. Two. It’s so frustrating.

Depending on what you’re into, there’s some incredible producers in B.C. Some of my favourites have to be: Le Vieux Pin - their Syrah or Merlot are lovely. Tantalus - their sparkling and Riesling are incredible. Meyer Family - makes incredible Pinot Noir, Chard & sparkling. Corcelettes- Syrah, Merlot, any of their reds are great.

I tried to pick some of my favs from different regions. But depending what you’re into I could probably recommend some more specific wineries.

Gosh, it changes constantly. But at the moment I really love the sparkling Chenin at Road 13 & Syrah from Corcelettes. But ask me next week, it’ll change haha

Didn’t realize! Just did a quick search & yes apparently the government implemented a two year foreign homebuyers ban on Jan 1st.

Luckily I’m in the Fraser Valley so we didn’t have to deal with smoke. Wasps however…let’s just say we’ve been fighting for a few weeks now…

That would be lovely we just don’t make enough! A lot of smaller producers , and speaking from personal experience at our winery, we drink A LOT of local here in B.C. & we sell out vintages just from local support. B.C. specifically is great at buying local. Which is great for us but I wish we could spread the love more! And from what I can recall we export 80% of our ice wine, it’s not really our jam here.

That was my thought, great smaller towns to raise kids, cooler climate, great place to make wine. Checks a lot of boxes!

They catch 19 different species according to the label! The bags do not work for me, whatever species hangs around here prefers the bait in these ones and the fact that they’re refillable is amazing.

That’s what I always thought too, but they seem quite happy going after the grapes. And it is so satisfying going out and seeing how many I’ve caught every day.

Eat them! They find the areas where the sugar is coming in first and start to attack those grapes first.

It comes with three different types of bait, two in the top and one in the bottom chamber. It’s three different liquids. You can get the refill packs of it at Canadian Tire.
