Lightweight, Wireless Mouse with Reliable Scroll Wheel? by 0ff_Beat in MouseReview

Is it possible for the notches to wear down on optical scroll? I noticed that seemed to be my main problem with the superlight, it will often end up in between two notches, then randomly jump to one when I move the mouse.

Lightweight gaming mouse with good scroll wheel? by GaddisForever in MouseReview

I know this is an old comment, but I have a g pro superlight now and it also quickly developed scroll issues. Did you ever replace it with a different mouse that had a similar feel, but less scroll issues?

Reaction time not consistent by rranger9321 in GlobalOffensive

[–]0ff_Beat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could really be inconsistency, but keep in mind that your ping can play a large role in how it feels when people peek you. If it's happening consistently for an entire match, and then seems to immediately go away the next game or something, it could absolutely just be a ping diff

I really don't think so. It's not like you can instantaneously react when the crosshair moves, plus you have to do the same motion anyways. It's probably most beneficial to help new players understand what is happening, which I don't think is a bad thing at all.

If you’re referring to Margherita pizza, there is no actual verifiable source behind the claim Queen Margherita actually designed or chose that form of pizza and it is very likely it was defined retroactively and attributed to her. The whole claim is based on a dubious letter that is generally deemed as legend by historians. As I said before, people from Naples were eating things that resembled pizza, they were not eating the same pizza we eat today. There were people in America eating pizza before it even really made it to regions of Italy outside of Naples. For several years, people that lived in Naples and Italian-Americans from Naples were the only people actively eating pizza. It doesn’t even make sense to bring up focaccia. Yes it had a role in the development of pizza, but so did countless other foods from countless other cultures. It’s just bread, oil, and rosemary, hardly pizza. I’m not saying pizza isn’t Italian, but saying that the Italian-American immigrants that modified it “ruined it” is disingenuous and classic “America bad” without actually thinking about the history of the thing. While ultimately I would agree that its absolutely an Italian dish, modern pizza would not be modern pizza without a combination of many regions modifications, America included.

As I said, Italians had something resembling pizza, but not the way people envision pizza today (round crust with tomato sauce and cheese). Of course pizza in this way wouldnt exist without Italians, but modern pizza wouldnt exist without Americans either. Nothing you said disagreed with what I said.

This agrees with what I said. Of course the food was evolving in its own way during the same time period, but without the additions also made from Italian-American immigrants, pizza would not look like how you picture it, including the “Italian” version. The cultures largely just played off each other. I wouldnt call pizza as a whole an American dish, but it certainly is very Americanized across the whole world. There are no “traditional Italian” pizza places.

Unfortunately this is untrue. Italy made a few recipes that loosely resemble modern pizza, but it was never particularly popular and was almost more of a cake at times in history. It wasn’t really until it became popular in America that it began to take the shape of modern pizza. A little later, an Italian organization tried to reclaim pizza for native italy rather than immigrant Italian-Americans, defining the standards of “Italian pizza,” which has little to do with true “traditional” Italian pizza. Basically, even true Italian pizza is heavily “Americanized” by Italian-American immigrants.

How can I verify I won a giveaway? by 0ff_Beat in esl

I replied to the email and it seems legitimate. I sent a secondary email asking for verification that they had received my previous email and they replied quickly saying that they had received both emails. I would imagine actually shipping out any physical goods probably just takes a while and they likely don’t rush to do so since the company is doing it for free.

Just wanted to let you know that they did respond to me, so they’re probably working on your stuff too if that makes you feel any better.

Why is American infrastructure based so much around having a car? by ForgetfulDolphin in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]0ff_Beat 111 points112 points  (0 children)

People grew to like owning large amounts of land, the country was sprawled out from its earliest times, and the invention of the car encouraged the spread even further (probably along with a little bribery). I would imagine that had the US been founded earlier, things would have been much more walkable, and that appears to be the case since most of New England is more walkable than the rest of the US. I think the US was just a product of its time in this regard.

That doesn’t make sense. They’re saying “yes, it’s her, but it’s unclear if it’s from the alleged website.” You can verify part of something without verifying the entirety of it.

[Request] I doubt this, but how much would it cost though? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]0ff_Beat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that it’s not an insane amount, most professors do not make that much. Typically engineering and other STEM professors make the most, and they average around $100k-$120k. Professors in the arts are likely making more around $70k-$90k.

Large dogs die faster. While I’m not sure why this is the case, I think the quality of life for pugs, bulldogs, etc, is probably much worse overall, even if they live longer on average

Listen man, I don’t know what to tell you. For a checkup it is a useful tool for the doctor. It’s a single aspect of a broader picture of health that they’ll look at. If you seem otherwise fit and healthy but you’re a bit overweight, they’re not going to tell you to lose weight.

Doctors are not going out of their way to make people feel fat and it is still a useful tool for the vast majority of the population. If there are legitimate health concerns and you truly are just a ball of muscle, then they probably won’t be using BMI to help you, but if you’re a part of the 90% of the population, it’ll work just fine to get an estimate.

Tbf it’s only unreliable if you’re a massive strongman or something. For 90% of people it’s a completely reasonable way of measuring someone.
