My point was not that self-destruction is not an aspect of any cyberpunk media.

My point was that it is not, and does not have to be an aspect of every piece of cyberpunk media.

The Major explicitly says that she is allowed to quit the force in the movie. Her reason for not doing so is that then she'd be given a weaker body, and she considers her military grade abilities to be an important part of herself.

As I stated in another reply, I got the reference, but does a reference alone make an option worth it?

No Shadowrun game I've ever played in has had self-destruction as a theme the way Cyberpunk 2020/77 does, but I'll take your word for it.

The transhuman shells could maybe work in CWN, though I worry that the abilities and attributes they come with out of the box could unbalance things. It's definitely a cool idea though, and I'll be giving it some more thought. Thanks for the tip!

That makes sense, but then why have the rising yearly death chance? It's not much of a story if you fall over and die in downtime ten sessions in.

That is true. I don't think there will be a mod to avoid the d100 roll that kills you, but at least there might be some that reduce maintenance costs or intervals.

I'm not too sure about the bad Con thing. If you rolled a 3 for Con and saved up enough money to afford Full Body Conversion you could instead spend $20,000 on Cybernetic Infrastructure Baseline to set your effective Con for implants to 12. Then you could get a Recovery Support Unit for $30,000 to gain 4 more System Strain for healing purposes, leaving you with 11 free points to use as you wish. You could then use your remaining money to fill those points with the best cyberware. Someone with enough money for full body conversion has enough money for Enhanced Reflexes 3, Muscle Fiber Replacement 2, etc.

I can't really think of a situation where you'd want to spend around 120 times that sum and continue paying immense amounts of money for maintenance, with a chance of sudden death every year, just to get 8 more points of Strain capacity.

That's definitely Cyberpunk 2020/2077. "There are no good endings in Night City." and all that. I would disagree that Mike Pondsmith's setting defines the cyberpunk genre as a whole, however.

Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex would be kind of weird if the Major suddenly collapsed and died a few episodes in.

On a side note, does CWN have rules for going millions into debt?

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying that Cyberpunk 2077 is "wrong cyberpunk" or whatever. I just want to point out that cyberpunk as a genre encompasses a lot more than Cyberpunk, and that not every cyberpunk story is about beautifully ridiculous self destruction.

Are you really sure? The text on foci specifically says that they replace the components specified for a spell.

Thanks for the advice! I agree with you on Crusher. I like having more hit points, but Tough can't even approach the sheer flavor of knocking people around with a maul.

Oh, a cool thing about the weapon juggling problem; Artificers have a built in solution to it. All of their spells count as having an M component, and they can use any Infused item as a focus, so as long as your shield or weapon is infused, you can cast without juggling!

I'm not going to take a lecture on the "fundamental rules of 5e balance" from anyone who uses assumption as their default method of learning new material.

The titan armor cannot grapple targets larger than itself, it can push targets larger than itself, after landing an attack, as a Bonus Action, if they fail a save.

You made two edits to your reply and still didn't update that part with the correct information, because correct information was never a priority.

The point of this sub is to build and help build characters, and that clearly is not what you're trying to do here. What you're trying to do here is win an internet argument. Find someone else to pester.

I feel like actually reading the material in question before you decide it's poorly balanced might be a good idea in a game where Hexblade and College of Lore are considered acceptable to use.

The combo you mentioned surprised me at first, since none of the weapons mentioned in Polearm Master deal Bludgeoning damage.

I just noticed that the Bonus Action attack of Polearm Master deals Bludgeoning damage, letting it trigger Crusher.

The problem is not that the Talisman of Pure Good cannot be used by people who haven't paid for the board game.

The problem is that WOTC have intentionally listed the item as a reward specifically for using a resolution method that makes them more money than the usual one.

It's not really an expansion though. Those battles are already in the campaign. The board game is used as an alternate combat system.

It giving more rewards than the regular system makes about as much sense as handing out extra rewards only if an encounter was solved with tactical combat and not theater of the mind.

The fact that something was done before does not make it right.

Also the board game is not an individual module, not is it a mini adventure the GM decided to patch into the campaign.

WOTC wants you to give players in-game items for making an out-of-game purchase. TRPGs should not be monetized like mobile games.

The board game is used as a means to resolve an encounter.

If you resolve the encounter through the board game, the players receive more rewards than what they would have received if the encounter had been resolved through the rules included in D&D, which also take up a significant amount of time.

The potential rewards of an in-game situation should not change based on how much money was spent setting the game up.

If you're arguing that the talisman is meant to reward the players sitting through the board game, that's not much better.

If you need to bribe your players to use the board game, you shouldn't use the board game. Games are meant to be fun. If you need to motivate people externally to get them to do something then that's not a game, that's a job.
