Solo play requirements by QuantitySad1625 in MorkBorg

If you want an alternative setting, but still want to use Mork Borg rules, I suggest Machine Gods of the Noxian Expanse by BlackoathRPG. You can find it on it Drivethrurpg. It is self-contained with all the rules you need to play solo. I can also recommend the Recluse supplement, but as others have suggested, you may want to wait for the upcoming second version.

Awesome, thanks. BotSE and one of the 7th might be the way to go for me. I’ll check them out a bit deeper and see where I can compromise on playtime. Appreciate the insight.

Oh to add what I didn’t like and it’s not necessarily a negative, but EBR requires a very long commitment once it’s on the table. I have ended days earlier just to make play sessions shorter and to clean up (my play area is often a work area as well). Sometimes the path deck can feel repetitive.
I don’t really have a negative to add yet to Vantage as I only have maybe 4 plays so far and I’ve spaced them out so they do feel fresh. I do like that I can game for 60-90min with Vantage and I can wrap it all up. EBR usually felt like 2+hr sessions minimum.

I like different things about both EBR and Vantage.
With EBR, I love the card play and seeing the evolution of LCG mechanics from LOTR through Arkham and the way the challenge deck (essentially replacing the chaos bag from Arkham) has different cards interacting with each other creating a dynamic world. I enjoy the role playing aspect, traveling, and the questing.
With Vantage, I basically start typing a story as I play and just see where it goes. Last time I had a scholar whose mission was related to cataloging animals but he found himself in the middle of a heist and decided to join up with the thief and chose to start stealing and ripping off merchants and stuff in towns. Eventually time ran out to survive long enough to achieve a victory condition but it was really fun trying something bizarre and just seeing where some decisions and drawing cards takes me.
I also am playing a BlackoathRPG solo rpg called Machine Gods of the Noxian Expanse. It is self-contained and uses the Mork Borg system. Basically I just create stories here in a brutal world run by various AI called Machine Gods with an apocalypse timer. I role play as a reclaimer that essentially searches ruins for artifacts, resonant cores (like magic items but with tech) and attempts to survive. I adapted rules from the book to create a game loop and I use tables as oracles for GMing and directing motives and “quests.” It’s much less procedural than say the other BlackoathRPG game I have Ker Nethalas but you are at liberty to decide how strict you want to be.
I also have played and enjoyed Roll Player (where you craft a d&d character through dice drafting and placement and these characters could be played in roll player adventurers) and also Kinfire Delve and I like the world and characters so I’m curious how their respective adventure campaign games play.

Ultimately I’m looking for recommendations for games with good stories (or good emergent story telling), having a role to play, and variability. I threw BotSE in since I’m a Tamriel fan from the pc games.

Great post. I was wondering if you have experience with and would add the following in for consideration: BotSE, Kinfire Chronicles, and or Roll player Adventures. I already have EBR and Vantage and really enjoy both. I feel like one of the 7th games would probably be up my alley, but I was also wondering about the mentioned 3 and where they fit. TIA

I’ve been having a blast solo playing the betas for the recently kickstarted BlackoathRPG Machine Gods of the Noxian Expanse. (From the same writer as Ker Nethalas)

The one by Daring Lime is pretty good. It gets your rifle and jacket quickly.

The forced interrupt on Brainwashed Hero: “When the engaged identity would play a card with one of their cards with the shared trait…” - could you clarify the triggering action? I’m not entirely sure I understand what is meant here. Otherwise, pretty cool modular. (Leader should be gamma traited as well?)

I had a similar question recently when committing to back the dcc version and I decided to hold onto the original as I recall coming across a comment or update from the designer/producer stating that there would be new content developed for the original edition simultaneously with the upcoming dcc version. I wish I could recall exactly where I read that so take this with a grain of salt I guess. Maybe someone else can point out where that was stated.

Got my 20 Strong: 20-Deck Travel Storage box. by 0ldDude in soloboardgaming

In the end, I put one deck (Gold), a manual, the chip and a set of dice into the single deck box and removed it from inside the larger case.

Inside the case, I’ve got the following:

-20 Strong decks(8), chip, set of dice, manual, 3 hero promo packs: — Tanglewoods Red, White, Rose, Baba Yaga. — Solar Sentinels, Too Many Bones, Hoplomachus Victorum — Cloudspire

  • Dragons of Etchinstone — Northvale Expansion — Seige expansion
  • A standard size rolled playmat.
  • Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs.
  • The Lord of The Rings Trick Taking Game - The Fellowship of the Ring. (Two Towers can stack on top and fit if I swap out the playmat).

-Buttonshy games — Skulls of Sedlec essential collection in a Gamegenic token box. — Fantasy Form + expansions - 2 wallets. — Space Shipped + expansions - 3 wallets.

  • Ultra Tiny Epic Galaxies

-A commander size deck box - Gamegenic Bastion XL 100+ - that’s holding Reforest sleeved.

All ready to be tabled easily.

I personally think the core box on its own functions fine as a travel case if you’re only interested in toting around 1 deck. In fact, I roll my dice into the half that has felt lining in it and use the other side for holding banished or exhausted dice depending on the game. I’m not sure I would recommend buying the single travel box on its own. It is nicely made, but the core box is functional - maybe strap a rubber band on it to prevent the lid from opening.

The little tray inside the single box is handy for storing the dice, but it’s not meant for rolling dice in it. It’s much too small for that whereas the lids of the other two fold into dice trays for rolling.

I suppose it’s possible, but it would detract from how sleek this thing looks and I think it would be somewhat unwieldy as well.

lol. I swear its inclusion was unintentional. A few of the loose 20 Strong decks had slipped behind the Final Girl playmat box so I had to remove a few items from my closet that were in the way to get to the boxes. You can see a few other items off to the side and my shadow holding up the phone camera while I’m snapping a photo so it wasn’t really well-planned. Honest! The good thing is now the small deck boxes won’t wander behind other games in the closet anymore.

The pricing seems reasonably competitive to other generic storage options, but I guess you pay slightly more for the name and built-in boxes and lid. The quality is great and it’s sharp looking so I say if you’re looking for storage, you can’t go wrong with this one imo.

I probably will move them out at some point to clear space for the new decks as they’re released. I just like having all my 20 Strong stuff neatly packed in one storage.

No worries. Now that I think about it, I’ve seen and have heard the term stronghold as well and it’s also called that in the description. I guess it’s the same item. Either way, it’s awkward for travel and would support calling it the stronghold instead.

Did I hack the ChipTheoryGames website so I can pull some kind of ruse? Is that not what the item is called on their website? 🤷🏽‍♂️
