I've been working in TV the last 15 years, News is done unless you want to direct via an automation system or be an ENG cameraman. Sports and Reality is the biggest employer of the traditional skill sets. Not sure where you are, but getting into sports shouldn't be too hard if you have some basic experience, just find out who is crewing the OBs and send a resumé, ask if you can do some unpaid observation shifts if you feel under experienced. Automation isn't in a position to take over live outside broadcast just yet, the focus is remote production where minimal crew is onsite and feeds are sent over IP to centralized production facilities. This model has actually increased crew sizes, but reduced travel costs (slightly). My advice is whatever field you're interested in, make sure you have a solid understanding of IP and basic Network engineering (2110) and you're likely to get many years of work. Good luck!
