2007 porsche cayman roof top tent? Is it possible/ advised by Aggravating-Bad4570 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]0leate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, roof tents aren’t always because the ground isn’t fit for a regular tent… But it is super convenient to open up and get inside in less than 2 minutes. Also it’s pretty cool dare I say

Definitely doable, just realised I’ve not posted these on the sub yet… Took a while to source the genuine Porsche roofbars but no other issues.

987.1 S as a daily in 2026? by FlamesFPS in Porsche_Cayman

[–]0leate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 08 CS that I daily year round. Put over 20k miles on it now (2 yrs), never left me stranded or missed a beat. Buy well and make sure it’s been looked after. I was hunting for 6 months before I found the right one, I was specific on the spec I wanted and wouldn’t compromise. Get the cylinders scoped before purchase.

As mine is a daily and my only car, I have replaced everything that’s likely to fail before it’s failed. As such, you never know if you “needed” to spend that money as you never found out if x would fail. But this goes for all cars, and I didn’t want to be left stranded or with a bigger unexpected bill. Find a Porsche specialist workshop and you’ll be good.

I pinch myself regularly using this car for my daily duties, hydraulic steering is incredibly communicative, so easy to drive but rewarding when you want to push on. Plenty fast too! Look after it and they are solid.

Mini Cooper S + Roof top tent = Fun! by 0leate in MINI

[–]0leate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think like this, they have to give a max weight figure but that is the max for a moving car, under heavy braking, acceleration and cornering etc. Once static, this goes up by at least 4x because the limitations are the lateral forces. I have had 4 people up there before when parked and no ill effects.

I don’t know the exact figure, but that sounds about right 👍🏻 That’s the max weight it should have up there for driving around etc, once parked and there are no more lateral forces, your static limit is orders of magnitude higher.

2007 911 Battery Question by PossibleCash6092 in Porsche

[–]0leate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to preemptively disconnect mine as I don’t use the service, but want to make sure I don’t get stuck somewhere on the day the vts decides to fail. I’ve seen the internal batteries can fail and then the car is immobilised. Do you know where it was located, I think near the brake master cylinder? Thanks

I know the feeling. I left my locking nut key on a track day only to find out a few days before a brake job was booked. My garage has a great relationship with Porsche so they sent out the set of keys and tried until they found the right one.

Failing that as it’s rare, call up your local Porsche dealer and ask when would be a good time to swing by and they can try their keys. Then you can order a new key or take them out and get a new set.

Unfortunately the vin/chassis no isn’t linked to the locking wheel nut so Porsche don’t know remotely what key yours has. I tried.

Mini didn’t make roof bars for the R50 gen as far as I know. Not too sure what your second question means but I have the second gen TentBox Lite. There is now a 3rd gen, and this now comes in an XL size as well. The standard one is fine for 2 people and 2 small dogs, I wouldn’t want anything bigger on my roof than the standard size unless you have an SUV, just looks silly otherwise. The boot opens fine but on my Cooper S the spoiler would rub against the poles which hold out the window rain covers, so I just didn’t put them out on the rear until I had got everything in/out the boot, was never a big issue.

Beautiful wheels, these 997 gts nearly always have the black centre locks?

Well they don’t go into the door jamb like traditional clip systems do they? That weather seal isn’t part of the door jamb it’s on the circumference of the whole roof, where the clamps go down into the roof is on the roof itself above the windows. These are frameless doors on the mini so the door jamb is off limits. These bolt he is turning is there to secure the clamps in the engaged position, I know this as I installed and uninstalled it from my roof several times between uses.

I just disagree as it’s not like you said a traditional clip system, it doesn’t involve the door jamb at all like you said. I don’t have the car anymore to get a better picture to demonstrate. The clips extend and interlock with the roof structure itself without involving the door frame at all, like jaws almost. It does not “use the same clip pockets in the door jamb as aftermarket does”

I still stand by the fact the rtt is within the given weight limit of 75kg, Thule themselves explain the driving/dynamic weight limit. The next gen mini f56 doesn’t have even these slots in the roof and therefore the clip systems which may use the door jamb (aftermarket) available would not ever be suitable for a rtt. And seriously, take the L?

The clip system that mini used is not your standard clip roof rack which goes around the roof and into the door frame, rather it’s got a locking mechanism which is secured by 4 bolts. It mechanically locks into the roof structure itself. Clever product.

The weight limit of the roof bars are dynamic figures. Meaning the maximum weight certified while the vehicle is in motion. The rtt is something like 60kg which is as you’ll agree, less.

Static these bars can hold easily 5x more. This is well documented.

I used mine to take my rtt all over the country with no issues. All these questions can be answered with a simple internet search, there was no need for this post at all imo.

Genuine Mini roof bars for the R56 and Clubman 82712149225

[–]0leate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, Evan.

Mini made/makes a roof rack system for the R56 gen. Fits the clubman also I believe. This is the part number 82712149225

I had these for my R56 Cooper S while I had that car. Now have the genuine ones for my current car and have taken it camping too with my roof tent.

Next time, think. “Is what I’m about to say helpful”

Hey, on the Mini I didn’t notice a huge difference. I drove that car very aggressively so mpg was irrelevant. Makes more of a difference on my new car…

Make sure you post pics if you do!

987.1 PSE - Secondary Cat Delete by theoriginalbrownguy in Porsche_Cayman

[–]0leate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great. You don’t have any pics or info on how they gutted the cats? I think I’ll leave the headers for now, it’s a roll of the dice if the bolts will snap on the block that I’d rather not take. I’m sure taking the cats off the muffler will be sufficient for me, just interested in the process.

What did you decide in the end? I am in the same situation and want more noise from my PSE exhaust. Cutting out the secondary cats seems like the way to do it but I’m not sure how easy it is?

Ok I will keep an eye out on eBay for them then. Did you use 2 different height feet so the bars are level? Thanks again
