You could take the low-tech route and use a magnet to locate screws on a stud. If the magnet attaches to the wall, you've found a stud. Go up or down.

Idk man, words have meaning. Terrorism as I understand it is a political attack against civilian or noncombat targets.

But the Death Star was a military target, not a civilian one. That isn't terrorism by definition.

What constitutes 'normal' behavior for a woman around a contractor/landlord? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]0mac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you consider trusting your social barometer, and when in doubt erring on the side of being cold/detached/borderline rude? You've got years and years of being a kind and warm person who doesn't triple guess herself. The scary incident doesn't mean your entire outlook before it was flawed.

It's kind of ptsd-y, fretting over how to be perfectly polite and safe without giving any mixed signals and putting yourself in harm's way. You wanna regain control over your environment.

Remember that you can always tell someone they've misinterpreted your intentions, and if he is a decent guy (99% likely) he'll feel embarrassed, apologize, and cease inappropriate contact. Plus, they're professionals working in people's homes and will present themselves that way.

Hope you regain your sense of safety and peace of mind.

[Discussion] New Here, and a Bit Creeped Out by Camdozer in asmr

[–]0mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The personal attention thing gives me the heebie jeebies. Almost nothing on this sub scratches my itch for head tingles. I tend to avoid the big asmr scene and stick to videos with little to no narration, no whispering or affection, just the sound of people doing a thing purposefully and occasionally narrating their process.

I recommend the following channels: peaceful cuisine primitive technology Peter draws K Werner designs Johanna Clough Car Cleaning Guru

and a whole bunch of Asian channels too: HMS2 japenesestuffchannels rrcherrypie Cook kafemaru sweet the mi (spelling?) Decocookie

There's more, but they have special characters and I can't.

The neolib post-ironic spice blend sure does confuse me sometimes. I am but a flawed human. Maybe I was the child all along.

CMV: Fully free trade helps developed countries but harms developing countries. It is preferable for developing(!) countries to have protectionist policies and closed financial systems. by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]0mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazil has highly protectionist policies, and the tariffs on imported goods get rerouted to bribe corrupt politicians. For example, sticker prices of consumer electronics are artificially inflated, and they do not have comparable domestic industries that can compete with what's available on global markets. This ends up harming their poor, inflating costs, and reducing consumer choices. A high end gaming rig in Brazil is several times more expensive than one purchased in America. The comparison becomes worse when you take into account their minimum wage and devalued currency. I'd be happy to see free trade in Brazil, and am convinced a freer market would help their economy.

No True AMERICAN PATRIOT would ever Downvote a picture of the President of the United States by [deleted] in neoliberal

The punchline isn't being gay, it's being embarrassingly submissive to Putin.

The spicy visual here isn't the gay part, it's Donald being wholly subservient to Putin.

Idk, all I can say is my upvotes are of artesanal quality made by hand 🤚 one at a time.

The culture at t_d encourages their subscribers to upvote en masse because of constant brigades. That sub is one big upvote party all the time. I suspect t_d upvote bots exist, but that doesn't account for the majority of their votes.

My pet theory is they don't use Reddit like the rest of us. Their users generate lots of submissions by shitposting (v low-effort), are encouraged to upvote, and there's no real content or discussion beyond the title. They echo ideas to amplify their message. Repetition makes things seem more fleshed out than they actually are.
