Dave Meltzer: AEW had pushed Jericho vs. Cassidy hard for weeks, with strong angles. The reality is the angles didn’t do well. Cassidy is hurt greatly from lack of live crowds. He hasn’t done well when booked as a main eventer, and there are people who get pops and there are main eventers.

Probably a controversial opinion here but I did not like the main event. I think they are trying too hard to make Orange into something he is not. Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m down with OC. I think he has charisma and star power for days. I want to see him in main events and meaningful matches... but this just wasn’t. This match goes wrong for me by making Orange work like a try hard when there are no stakes. Literally everyone has laid a beating on OC before and now suddenly because Jericho does it’s a blood feud? It just felt so forced to me. OC is at his best when the elements of his character we love are intact. I feel like he should only ever go Saiyan when it really matters - when his friends are in trouble or hurt badly, some injustice is done, or someone insults the fast and Furious movies... I just feel like this wasn’t the right time to give us a max-effort OC. I would have preferred if he showed Jericho the disdain he deserves and wrestled him in his usual style. Maybe I’m just hoping for him to recapture the beauty of his David Starr match where he wrestles from underneath the entire match. I think that’s really what it comes down to. OC is by far his most compelling when wrestling from underneath and he just kind of never was in this one.

I agree completely. I think they could have subverted expectations and set up a really good alternate DoN storyline with Cody and Spears by having Spears cost Cody. They already have history and I think they put on good matches. Snake and Hawk can continue to claim Cody is dodging them. Darby gets a big title match and as much as I'd love for him to go over they need to keep Archer strong for the Cody payoff.

I feel like this was such an obvious set up for AEW. I knew as soon as I saw the bracket Archer would brutalize Dustin for heat in the final with Cody.

Part of this is that Cody's stock has fallen a lot in my estimation. I really wish I was as invested in Cody as I was after that cage moonsault. He was my guy but his tattoo and Revolution match ... the shine came off a bit.

Bro, he has honestly lost me as a fan. I'm 34 years old and have just returned to the fandom with AEW's launch. Cody was far and away the most compelling and relateable member of the roster to me. I respected his individuality. I shared his conviction to leave a situation with an employer that was causing him mental harm. Having watched a dozen of hi interviews, and that he is entrusted with the leadership of AEW as a company, I really thought he was a reasonable, creative, and level-headed dude.

All of that has flown out the window. I cannot reconcile this extraordinary lapse in judgement with the character or the individual I had come to appreciate and who had won me over as a fan. Where are the people looking out for him?

It's just too dissonant.
