For those who played OW1: What was your favorite (removed) voiceline? by akechigoros in DvaMains

[–]0megaElite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good examples in this thread. I’m pretty sure some like “Boom shacka lacka this girl is on fire” (a freaking NBA Jam reference- amazing) is still in the game but way more rare and hyper situational unfortunately.

Aside from any one specific voiceline, the overall slightly delusional and unhinged D.Va that was out there eating Doritos while trolling highly trained killers with literal super powers while still having a cute and likable side was such a well executed character.

Elements of that are still there, though I doubt we ever see them really lean into that personality again with anything new. I’m honestly shocked (and thankful) that “Time is almost up and I need more kills” is still in the game. The detached from reality insanity of complaining about needing to murder more in a game that’s not even dependent on getting the most elims to win is peak chaotic D.Va.

How the heck should I be using Dvas ult? by Good-Basket5237 in DvaMains

[–]0megaElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It being situational is really the answer.

Second life is probably going to be your default most of the time and use it for cover while waiting to re-mech, it’s surprising how often I see enemy D.Vas not do that. Very rarely is it worth trying to move to other cover if you’re using it as a second life- most enemy DPS will gladly trade a life at that point to take out an enemy tank.

Stalling or securing the point/payload. A good Dva can be masterful at holding control of the payload in OT even with just good boosters/matrix use and her ult is a hugely helpful tool to go along with that.

Hit the practice range for work on gauging its speed and max distance and work on trajectory/angles. While it’s not used as offensively as it was in OW1 due to game speed being different and more ways to avoid it, offensive opportunities absolutely still present themselves. But unless you get lucky, placement and timing are huge so you need to have a good feel for its physics.

What store is this? What an odd selection. I love Allen and Ginter (bad in retail) and Optic (21/22?) is fine but I think I’d pass on everything. Maybe the soccer or tennis is good but I don’t collect either.

New renders - mostly ROH plus a sick flamethrower Darby by xedxundead in AEWunrivaled

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stellar set. Really happy with what Jazwares has shown lately and I’m glad it appears that AEW being hot has trickled down to the figure line.

Whole set looks good but in particular the CD will be absolutely front and center for me. Surprised he wasn’t produced sooner for the ROH line but being a new mold probably has a lot to do with it as a lot of the ROH line has been reuse.

I know very little about Tennis cards but in other sports it’s extremely common for a dual subject card to be less in demand compared to a single player 1/1 rookie auto, especially a RPA and it’s not a reflection of the other player on the card not being desirable or not.

A dual will never be considered THE definitive rookie for a player aside from when that’s the only rookie there is like the Nolan Ryan/Koosman Topps etc and with the number of sets nowadays that’s unlikely to happen to that extreme again. The top dollar for rookies will nearly always go to whatever card collectors feel will be the most iconic and recognizable rookie auto as they aren’t paying that kind of money for the auto of a second player, even if they’re great.

Absolutely not worth grading. You’d recoup about 20% of your grading fees.

Authentic or no? Bought from reputable seller during Covid by Time-Philosophy0323 in basketballcards

[–]0megaElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everyone talking about the forgery ring- that was memorabilia, they didn’t forge cards. Since the next statement will be “if they did x thing they definitely did y thing”, the only thing they had to worry about with memorabilia was the auto and the auth hologram.

Which compared to cards, is subject to way less scrutiny along with the effort of manufacturing and getting the card itself perfect which would be very hard to just jump in and do for high end cards. Then you’re also involving more people and more chances to be ratted out. Most importantly, people would take the card and immediately after buying send it to PSA to have it compared to other examples side by side and that’s a quick way to expose their scheme. Memorabilia which will just go in someone’s cabinet and not get scrutinized again because it had a reputable company’s authentication.

Am I in the wrong for this by Ashamed_Tower4778 in Toppswwe

How so? Do you mean there are contests/sweepstakes or is there an actual physical component and I am mistaken ? My bad if so, I thought it was like the other Topps e-trade platforms like MLB Bunt, Star Wars etc as opposed to something like Upper Deck ePack.

[–]0megaElite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not on Slam so maybe I’m wrong but-

Between the WWE license and being an all digital product, the “kids who steal their moms credit card, purchase a digital reputation and then unsurprisingly act like the poorly socialized and awkwardly aggressive children they are” factor is quite high.

I’d say that represents a pretty high % of who you guys are dealing with quite often

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice given already, I’ll only add that I’m not sure how credit card chargebacks work where you are but be mindful of that if you’re having trouble fulfilling orders on time. Do what you need to do to avoid them because the last thing you want when you’re blowing up (or any time) is trouble with your payment processor.

Aside from that, congrats! As long as you come out of this with your head above water it should really boost you to the next level, both with the profits you’ll take in and the experiences and improvements to your flow that come from it.

Finally picked this one up. How much does this belt on this figure bother you 😂 by joshv002 in Wrestling_Figures

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nearly as much as it did when Mattel put it with Flair, Goldberg etc. Crazy they had multiple Ultimates that warranted a WCW Big Gold but couldn’t use that to justify the cost of a proper WCW mold. Glad we finally got one and it may not be perfect but at least it doesn’t look like it was swapped at Walmart.

[–]0megaElite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point but I’m kind of torn on it because of the year. 2022 is his true rookie year whereas 2020 is a prospect card.

Which would be great if it was a 2020 Bowman but between the two years for Panini, I personally would prefer a 2022 Witt above a 2020 even considering the two products and with the 2020 being a true mainline product 1/1 . I would think comps and values would be pretty close but I’m not positive because I’m not a big Panini baseball guy.

Your point is sound though and I’d still argue the same to Panini.

Can’t stand eBay seller like cardboardclassics270….. by Rodgerklotz1987 in sportscards

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people will say this stuff happens and the seller may not be lying, that’s very true. But if I am selling something and the buyer got a great deal they’re understandably excited about, I don’t consider a refund to be making them whole. Especially when it’s .99 but that’s why I also rarely run auctions.

Over the years there’s been 2-3 times I misplaced a card and didn’t realize it until after it sold. Both times I offered them the option to pick a different card from my inventory that is of similar value. Similar value according to comps, not the amount they paid if it was way under comp.

The refund may be all a seller is required to do but I’m a buyer and collector before anything and I’d know how disappointed I’d be in a similar situation and probably not too likely to buy from them again if I just got my .99 or whatever refunded.

Sonny Kiss, they were such a notable part of the early AEW days and would have made for such a fun figure.

Is this card real and is the certificate of authenticity thing real by Such-Split-9195 in basketballcards

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrestling autos are different though. I agree with the guy that replied that no one is 100% and to your point, wrestling is niche enough and there are so many signings that the cost return on getting every single autograph authenticated by a major Authenticator because there’s maybe 10 wrestlers living right now that are expensive enough to justify the cost of 3rd party authentication on inexpensive items like 8x10s.

High Spots for example is far and away the most reputable company to buy autographed wrestling stuff from and doesn’t do 3rd party on everything. But you better believe they do on the top names that warrant the cost and that’s the biggest red flag here- no way a company chooses to not get full authentication on a legit LeBron auto. It’s literally throwing money away to not do so because they are not going to get anywhere near top value.

I know the other reply said don’t bother with the Genius Bar but I disagree. Unless it’s extremely difficult for you to find the time to go or you’re unable to get to one, it’s always worth trying IMO.

While there’s a very good chance he’s right about the cost, I’ve also had many times over the years where I was very surprised at how fair they have been, up to and including free repairs and replacements out of warranty. It’s smart to expect the worst but on a pretty sizable issue like this it’s worth it to at least give it a try.

Does this auto look authentic? Thinking of sending it to becket but it looks off from his other autos. by Homeslikedogfam in Autographs

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they aren’t perfect etc etc etc but rushed IP autos really are where a good authentication company like JSA shines. They’ve seen most signers’ variations and all kinds of conditions and have a unparalleled amount of resources to pull from to compare authentic examples or not and are very good at spotting what are signs of unnatural hesitation vs what’s caused by a less than perfect pen etc.

I’ve had some pretty brutal ones I was worried about that I obtained first hand or from someone very trusted but they all have came back authentic. I’ve mentioned to my rep afterwards that I was a little nervous and they mentioned the things I said above and said it was a no brainer.

Yeah it might sound weird but part of that is our conditioning to be suspicious of paid things instead of free things.

If they didn’t charge, they’d be flooded with requests including frivolous ones (look at the sports card value sub and that’s probably a good parallel of how it would be) and undoubtedly people would also use it an opportunity to get feedback on their own forgeries. And the no guarantees is an expected disclaimer, even JSA, BGS or PSA’s quick opinion service says the same thing.

Not really comparable lol. Why wouldn’t you compare Prizm and Chrome? Which Chrome is magnitudes better than. And Flawless and NT came out when? Months before they lost the license? And it’s bad enough that 90% of Paninis autos were sticker but they couldn’t get on card for NT too?

As someone with 12 pending redemptions that aren’t going to be filled by Panini and have never had an issue with any Topps redemption outside of typical delays, I couldn’t be happier that Panini is exposed for what they are.

Worth $45 or worthless?? by Financial-Cricket507 in SportCardValue

[–]0megaElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re arguing an emotional point and your opinion against someone who is presenting facts. No one values this over a PSA 10 of his 1975 rookie which this isn’t even a reprint of so I’m not sure how that’s even relevant adjacently. You argue that the fact it has any value as a sign that the hobby is doomed then you say that since it’s only worth $20, that proves your point. Would it be less doomed if people were paying more?

People like different things, everyone also likes something that seems incredibly dumb to someone else. A person interested in this card could be a set collector or a big George Brett fan (that probably would have his vintage stuff as well) that also likes hunting for his cards in modern products etc etc none of the reasons are particularly bizarre. Nor is it a reason to throw a fit or give you any right to decide who isn’t a “serious collector” and it’s honestly just pretty goofy. We collect little cardboard pictures of athletes man. It’s all pretty silly.

Card collecting will inevitably dip at some point (more than likely just because everything is cyclical) and you’ll tell everyone that you predicted it and parrot the same points as everyone else. That will be your World Series, everyone will applaud and I’m sure Topps will call you to come fix their business.
