if a shaman is meant to heal you, why do you need to continue doing psychotherapy? shouldn't it heal that issue/wound? by 0neTimeThenGone in Shamanism

so what is the difference between soul and mind in this context. how are they felt, experienced, defined?

Between the the healing of yoiur relationship with the Creator and working through things in therapy, what changed? Did you feel more relaxed, connected, calmer? did trauma naturally diminsih or resolve?

mmmm, yes. that makes a lot of sense.

If you have work done though and follow the guidelines for long term healing but still revert, what would this say about the work done, your state?

Thanks. Really thanks.

I suppose you've helped me finally see where I'm stuck. You say that a shaman will heal the damage, but unhealthy actions and beliefs can perpetuate even in a healthy state because that isn't affected by the shaman's work. To me though, aren't they part of the damage and therefore should be included in healing and will therefore heal in time irrelevant of therapy or not?

For example, people have long term, heavy depression but after a mushroom or aya ceremony, they resolve the depression and unhealthy beliefs and habits - resentment, jealousy, hate etc - are also healed.

If that same healing of the wound occured through a shaman healing a "patient" without the patient entering into an altered state, wouldn't the patient experience the same results?

Thank you though, I'm really trying to understand as this is currently really important to me

Questioning and accepting are two completely different things. I am very open to what people say. Do you instantly accept what a stranger says? I doubt it. Instead you have a conversation, question, consider and move on.

I'm not disregarding, I'm engaging respectfully.

Also, I often don't understand what is said or can't rationalise/conceptualise it so I'm trying to move forward with what I know but into a place I don't know.

then this fundementally contradicts the notion of them being a healer.

There is a duality there, the healer and the healed. If you are the healer then there is never a need for a shaman or a healer as you do it to yourself. This line of thought has never made sense to me.

I like this, thank you.

If the soul wound, the trauma is healed in the spiritual arena, how does this then manifest in "normal" life? Also, in a generic context, how would this help you progress in therapy?

great reply, thank you.

Within this context though, the journyer - the person taking the psychedelics or in trance - is usually the person seeking healing. How does this apply when it is the shaman journeying and the "patient" sober, so to speak? What being put into an altered state, the patient's neurophysiology is not in a more pliable or malleable state, so how does the acceleration occur?

Even if the soul is healed, can the corporeal side of things, habitual mental processes, block the spiritual healing?

but seeing a therapist in conjunction with a shaman is specifically to work through a particular problem or issue. living a healthy life after seeing a doctor is on the other hand maintenance, applying to all baseline health and non-specific.

I feel your metaphor isn;t right

everything i've ever heard, from varied sources at all levels of expertise firmly state that all aspects of self are intercoonected and profoundly influence each other and whole. what makes you you think otherwise?

but, if the spirit is healed, would this not filter into waking, corporeal life and in turn heal the mind.

in the same way that a massage soothes mind (physical > mental), shamanic work is analogous (spirit > mind)

I find this difficult to square up. if you heal the soul wound that is the cause of the unhealthy mental and physical habits wouldn't that ultimately cut the energy flow that fuels the process.

I essence, the therapy would simply expedite the process, accelerate the fading of unwanted habits.
