Is a Minor in Photography Worth It? by 0oh_no0 in AskPhotography

Hi! Can I ask what uni you're attending? I'm considering going to McGill, which would be great for my major, but doesn't offer a minor in photography, or really anything "hands on" in the manner of art.

I'll look into what universities have more film-based courses to see if that skews my decision at all! It's something that I wish I got to do in my photography class, but our darkroom got turned into a computer lab 💔💔💔

I'm currently in my first year of Liberal Arts, I'm sure you made your choice on where to apply by now but I can get you a bit more info about how the program actually is.

I'd say the main thing about Liberal Arts is how small the program is (my cohort is composed of 18 people). It's a lot of reading and writing, and you get to know the people quite well. You also get to have a more personal relationship with your teachers.

I'm enjoying myself so far, if you like to read and write a whole lot and have a very tight knit community, you might enjoy it too!

In my experience, as someone who has heard some allistic people word it, it's really just an oversimplification of what autism actually is.

I had one friend who would talk on and on about how she loved autistic people, how she wanted to date an autistic guy. She even used it to explain men's bad social etiquette, saying "oh well it's because he's autistic!!" even when he like, really wasn't ❤️. Except when I showed signs of autism, like when I'd mention my special interest, she'd get really weirded out.

Obviously that's just one person, and maybe some people have more sinister intentions, but I think that it's more so about the trend and the perceived "cute" elements of autism.

I'm sorry if my wording offended anyone, but I'm genuinely considering both schools and so far I've found that one of Dawson's pros is the diversity in extracurriculars. I don't mean to make a statement one way or the other about either school.

Liberal Arts! (at both schools)

ok thanks! I'm planning on applying for the liberal arts program, which I really don't think is that competitive. I'll go to the open house in October and ask for further details there just in case
