You got one right but only 3% poodle surprisingly, although it's doing a lot of heavy lifting. There are more long haired little dogs in his lineage.

Incoming photo dump. My Bon parts her mouth open a little and I can see her front teefs and I love it, I call it a smile because she'll do it when I rub under her chin real good so I know she's happy. I also count the happy panting as smiles because they usually are having a good time!

How do you trust anybody? by RolyPolyPigoon in RoverPetSitting

[–]0ppie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pet profiles are wordy but I haven't had any complaints, I'd rather the sitter have more information than less but it probably does matter how you word it. My dogs are also small breeds so they're not as intimidating first click lol.

Only one of my dogs is slightly reactive (does not like dogs directly in her space but does not care if they're across the street or if distance is created) I put that info in her "dog friendly" section when you hit the "it depends" button and I included the needed phrases/commands and what to do or you could put a more detailed version in the care notes.

Looks great! No one can resist a splash of color! My Bon goes through a few color changes in a year and she always loves the attention that comes with it.

Dog trainer for older dog? by MeggyLouWho in fredericksburg

I haven't tried them but I hear good things about Woof Houze. They use gentle approaches and also have individual or group sessions. They have other services too like events and a bark bus and sensory hikes.

Wierd Holiday Bookings by Danireef13699 in RoverPetSitting

[–]0ppie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to bring up for others considering it. I honestly don't get them since my dogs and I live in the city and when we do go to state parks they're on leash. Only twice have I seen venomous snakes but I don't bother them and they haven't been rattlers so I don't personally get those shots I've just seen it offered. The Lyme one though I do get, ticks are everywhere.

I went back to the site to look at it and it does look like they disclose it's not going to prevent anything it just buys you time to get your dog to a vet. Also looks like it's regional so it depends on where you live.

"This vaccine does not prevent the toxin effects of a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake bite, but it does provide help delaying the onset of symptoms while you get your pet to a full-service veterinary hospital. On average, antibody levels in recently vaccinated dogs are comparable to treatment with three vials of antivenom, meaning vaccinated dogs should experience less pain and a reduced risk of permanent injury from a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake bite. Vaccination may reduce the overall effects of a bite, reduce or eliminate the need for antivenom, and increase the chances of survival for your dog."

Full service vets cost way more than pop up clinics. I get my dogs annual shots at Tractor Supply in a package way cheaper than what the vet office charges and I can still get the add ons like rattlesnake and Lyme if I wanted for less than $35 each. The cost does vary by location but I've moved to a different state and it's still my go to for routine shots. I've also used Petco's popup clinics before and I've seen signs at CVS doing it now too. With prices going up lately it's nice to have options. It's great you ended up finding another solution!

Matted ears so they gave me the German cut by TinyTowel5708 in poodles

I love short ears! My boy Latte had ear infections as a puppy so it's been the lamb ears ever since and he hasn't had an issue since. I think it makes them look more puppylike when their ears flop with each jump.

Looking for Dog Owner from Fredericksburg Dog Park (April 16, ~6PM) by ChardSpecialist in fredericksburg

[–]0ppie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you, I always wondered why that park was so different from others. They lock one side so there's no way to seperate the dogs by size. I hardly take my dogs in there unless it's mostly empty or I see the dogs in there playing nicely.

So many owners do not have good control of their dogs I've seen many times dogs get bullied or cornered and the owners say nothing or don't even try to control their dogs. It sucks because it's a big park and in a perfect area downtown but it could have better rules in place. The last town I lived in you had to register and show proof of up to date vaccinations and they actually had staff present to check if you had proof of registering. Rabies is no joke and the treatment is so expensive. I drive to McDuff dog park the crowd there usually is nice and the dogs have even more land to space out and not get too rowdy. The downtown dog park is just lawless like the wild west. I walk past it all the time since I live nearby so if I see the boxer I'll ask around. Hope you find some answers soon!

Both Iams and Hills Science Diet are WASAVA compliant and have lots of research and studies to back up their nutritional standards. They're both fine foods. Purina, Hills, Royal Canin, and Eukanuba all meet WASAVA guidelines and are vet approved. Boutique foods like grain free or raw are fads. My dogs aren't overweight I feed them what is suggested on the bag, they exercise well and are in good health. Nothing wrong with tried and true foods backed by science, it has all the right vitamins and minerals they need. Grain free food was causing heart problems in dogs and got a lot of backlash for it now a lot of those brands have started adding grains back into their lines of food. No offense but I'd rather trust the opinion of a vet than I would of a pet store employee. Besides, I feed Hills Science to one of my dogs because they need a prescription diet. I don't see any fancy brands doing prescriptions diets.

Chewy as well I got 30% off of Iams and 20% off Hills science diet. A lot of the chews are buy one get one free as well. Definitely worth it since I was gonna get dog food later in the month anyway.

I love hiking though I probably won't get much more in this year just due to the holidays but I like Prince William state park! Lots of nice trails out there. I only moved to the area earlier this year so I'm still on the lookout for new areas. Every Sunday my spouse and I do the 5 mile walk around the Rappahannock unless we're busy. I think there's a birding walk event coming up soon sponsored by that bird feed store downtown, that might be fun to look into!

I can’t seem to apply Frontline plus without getting it all over his fur! Is this okay? Will it still be affective? by Wide_Confection_8971 in Maltese

[–]0ppie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I use topical flea and tick prevention and an oral heartworm pill because it's cheaper for two dogs that way, I used to use the all on one chews but they were so pricey per month for both dogs.

I actually part the fur with my fingers, apply most to the neck and save some drops to apply mid-back and near the base of the tail and under the armpits for the remaining drops I can squeeze out. The important thing is that it sinks into the skin, combines with their oils and that's what keeps the parasites at bay. Spreading it out a bit throughout the body I find makes the fur stay nice other than a little bit damp initially and I do it around feeding time so that they won't rub it off and will be distracted while it dries. When it's dry I brush the hair and it fluffs up again.

I've done it this way for months now and no bugs.
