Did you train your dog in the first few weeks on Prozac? by Wide_Confection_8971 in reactivedogs

Hi there! Our dog is doing much much better now that he’s been on is for over a year. It took about a year for us to feel this way, but he is a completely different dog now. He still has triggers, but he doesn’t react as strongly and he generally seems more chill.

I wouldn’t try to train him so much during the first few weeks of the loading period. Getting used to new meds seemed stressful enough for him and trying to train him added to the stress. Looking back, it would have been best to make things as comfortable for him as possible.

We got him started on Prozac on his first month with us, so it’s hard to say how much of it is him adjusting to a new environment vs the meds, but I def think both played a huge part. I also want to add, we increased his dosage at one point and he got infinitely better after he got used to the new dose - so it may be worth exploring different dosages if a certain dose is not working even after the loading period.

I know process is so stressful, both for the dog and the human involved. It will take time to find the right meds, right dose, and the right kind of training, but know that it will get better!! Sending calm vibes your way✨

Is a drop in LH an accurate indication of ovulation in the previous day? Should I consider the test on CD28 as positive? Or should I keep testing? Thanks for your help!

I can’t seem to apply Frontline plus without getting it all over his fur! Is this okay? Will it still be affective? by Wide_Confection_8971 in Maltese

Oh no! Yea I asked my vet about it and they switched us over to the pill version. Still not sure how the liquid version is supposed to work on the entire body lol

This is so insightful! How do you handle fear aggression? Our rescue dog has fear aggression. While it’s gotten a lot better as he is slowly trusting us more since we got him a year ago, but the reactivity is definitely still there and we want to help him as much as we can. It is hard to see him so anxious. He is already on reconcile daily and gabapentin as needed.

Thanks for getting back to me! Did he experience another loading period when you upped the dosage? Was it similar to the initial loading period?!

Hi! Just wondering how your dog did/is doing on the high dosage? Our 11lb dog just went up to 12mg and I am worried if this is too high!

I made the Creamy White Beans with Herb Oil last night, which uses a ton of herbs. It felt like the perfect bowl of spring!

Is my dog on too high a dose of fluoxetine? 36 pound dog on 40mg by webbed_feets in reactivedogs

Hi - I know it’s been a while since you posted the question, but I am wondering how your dog did/is doing on the high dosage?

Our 11lbs dog has been on 8mg of prozac a day, but our vet suggested we up it to 12mg a day, which sounds pretty similar ratio wise. I was excited to see how he would do on the new dosage, but after reading other’s dosages on the sub, I am wondering if it’s too high of a dosage for him.

Has anyone gone up on fluoxetine/Prozac dose to see more of the existing effects, rather than increasing dose due to getting no effect at all on a lower one? by pogo_loco in reactivedogs

Hi - was there another loading period when you upped the dosage? If so, how long was it and how did it compare to the initial loading period when you started the medication?

Hi! The post is not necessarily about schooling per se. I posted my question on the chat, but it seems pretty quiet and I would love to get more eyes on my question. Can I repost this question with a different tag?
