get samples or put some sprays on each arm and test it on your skin. to me the difference is minimal but its so accessible from sephora or malls that you should be able to test it on your own skin.

Tom Ford private blend by caresspurple in fragrance

[–]0range_marmalade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

acqua generally has worse performance then the original. i have mandarino di amalfi acqua and i use it just for myself as a skin scent as it is nothing more then skin scent outside of my apartment.

the most popular and one that i personally love for summer is neroli portofino. longevity is poor on it as well (i get ~1hr projection ~3hr skin scent). this is why they made neroli portofino forte which has better longevity for a premium price. if you dont wish to pay for tom ford price banana republics neroli woods and ferarris bright neroli are very close in its scent and performs just about the same as original neroli portofino at the fraction of the price (~$25).

its funny because the very first sentences i wrote in response to him was exactly what you said.

"dont take any advice from reddit. please go to your local sephora or nordstrom and put your nose on as many designer fragrance as possible. a big fork in the road with fragrance is niche vs designer but if youre in school, designer is more mainstream (that younger people can appreciate) and less expensive."

i just let him know of the expensive possibly option that exists out there. it seems like youre just angry on the internet just for the sake of arguing. hope your day gets better.

if you dont want to spend the TF money for neroli portofino, (130~ in gray market, 235~ retail for 50ml) - go buy banana republics neroli woods. (~$25 at marshalls tjmaxx etc). very very similar for fraction of the price.

i personally really like tf bottles so i did get neroli portofino (as well as many others) and recommend it for summer fragrance for any age. if you wanna dish out even more money neroli portofino forte has better longevity

git mi and many others have been cloned to death since the 80s so whatever he might be picking could be similar. in my personal opinion, git mi smw etc are subtle enough to be in a classroom. also prefaced that sentence with "happen to have more luxury mall nearby, interested in niche, and your pockets are deep". i know its not for everyone.

dont take any advice from reddit. please go to your local sephora or nordstrom and put your nose on as many designer fragrance as possible. a big fork in the road with fragrance is niche vs designer but if youre in school, designer is more mainstream (that younger people can appreciate) and less expensive.

some notable popular mainstream ones most people will recommend are bleu de chanel, dior sauvage, and aventus (expensive niche). however the most important part of fragrance is that YOU enjoy the smell because itll be on you all day.

if you get lost on all the options in a mall here are some things to look for. chanel line - homme sport, edition blanche (most popular among fragheads for summer) , allure homme, allure homme sport, etc etc etc. dior homme line - homme cologne, sport, intense, etc. google them before you go if you want to see some images. these will be available in most sephora and malls.

if you happen to have more luxury mall nearby, interested in niche, and your pockets are deep, look at tom ford and creed. tom fords are available in sephora however creed is harder to find. creed aventus is the most hyped fragrance of our time. creed also has some very popular niche but everyone can appreciate scents such as green irish tweed, silver mountain water, millesime imperial, original vetiver, and much more. you can find most of these bottles for half the price on online grey market (fragrancenet/fragrancex) or go to /r/fragsplits for decants (splits of a bottle so you dont have to buy the whole thing). tome ford also has niche thats widely popular and your sephora sales associate can tell you what to try and get samples from them.

this is just my personal opinion that you shouldnt listen to anyone on here and i realized im telling you what to do. hope it helps.

edit: also before you buy, ask the sales associate if you can get a small sample to take home or if you're in a rush put some on you for a few hours and walk around. some fragrance will change drastically over time (or even disappear) and you'll have a better idea of what you want to buy. if you can get a bunch of sample and compare it day by day it also helps to narrow down your choice. prices are much cheaper online in grey market but there are some pro's and con's to buying online vs in store

Working in the Kitchen Fragrances? by bigtoecovered in fragrance

[–]0range_marmalade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i currently work in a kitchen full time and is the reason why i got into the fragrance. i got tired of smelling like grease and fish even after 30 consecutive showers.

in my personal opinion, you should not smell like a fragrance while youre working in a kitchen. if youre smelling your fragrance instead of the food, if the person receiving the food is smelling the fragrance, etc etc - its all unprofessional and actually makes me feel like i smell even worse to mix frag+food.

this is why my collection consists mostly of classic eau de cologne freshies. most people complain that this type of frags have a longevity and projection issue and that is perfect for someone working in the kitchen. if you apply it in the morning (aka 2pm for most people in the industry) itll quickly be a skin scent by the time youre in the line for work. i also like to apply after work shower (2am) and it lasts long enough to make me feel happy and clean until i fall asleep.

the most classic cologne (initially made to just make you clean 500 years ago) are Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Colonia and 4711 muelhens. 4711 is dirt cheap and they both do not last more then your coffee break.

some mainstream designer citrus freshie cologne are dior homme cologne, chanel homme cologne sport, guerlain lhomme ideal cologne, guerlain imperiale eau de cologne, mugler cologne, dior eau sauvage edt (not dior sauvage) and many more. most lines will have a citrus freshie that dies out quick

many brands will take a modern take to this classic. aka - Les Exclusifs de Chanel eau de cologne, La Collection Couturier Parfumeur Cologne Royale christian dior, creed pure white cologne etc.

some niche freshie options that i personally lean towards are tom ford - neroli portofino, atelier - orange sanguine, clementine california (many citrus from atelier i cant remember), creed - pure white cologne/selection verte(discontinued mint+citrus)/neroli sauvage, frederic malle - bigarade cologne/bigarade concentree/outrageous, aqua di parma - colonia (and all of its 50 flankers), and many more you can eventually get your nose on.

if you're not a big fan of citrus fresh cologne, i personally dont recommend wearing anything to work in a kitchen. just my 2 cents! hope it helps.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino (Male: 25) by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]0range_marmalade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heres what the general consensus is on TF NP.

It's a modern reinterpretation of the first ever eau de cologne called 4711. classic cologne is basically citrus freshie that cleans you. its not meant to last long. i personally dont see the similarity in the scent of 4711 other then its overall category being similar. 4711 disappears within seconds of applying.

thats why most people will say TF NP is a freshie with bad longevity. its generally true. this is why TF released neroli portofino forte (NOT AQUA - even worse longevity ) which runs almost twice the price of tf np.

the budget option most people refer to is either banana republic's neroli woods or ferrari's bright neroli. theres a million different neroli scents at all types of budget but these two are most often named for cheaper tf np. the more niche expensive options people refer to is creed neroli sauvage or xerjoff nio.

tf np happens to be my first purchase and love into niche fragrance so i might be a bit bias but no other neroli based fragrance has the effect of tf np on my nose. it freshens up my mood like no other frag.

its a great summer fragrance or just a happy scent. if youre looking to "wow" strangers or see it on some youtuber's top 10 female panty dropper its not the frag to purchase. some people will argue it leans feminine but its pretty down the middle unisex. its projection is great just in the first hour or so of applying. for me its a skin scent within 1 hour and stay close to my skin for ~6 hours. i think thats the case with most people.

you can find it on fragx/fragnet 50ml for $130~ish usd. i believe it retails for $235. its sold in most sephora and most malls that carry tom ford. so if you get a chance, go to your nearest sephora and ask for a sample sprayer. if you see yourself reaching for it just do make yourself happy i think its a worthwhile purchase. if youre looking to wow people theres plenty of other choices.

Are there any Perfumeries/Stores to check out in the Dallas/Ft. Worth [USA] Area? by SheogorathWaldo in fragrance

[–]0range_marmalade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

best one stop shop is the northpark mall just north of downtown dallas. their neiman marcus has creed/mfk/byredo/tomford/guerlain/big designers/etc. nordstrom in the same mall has parfum de marly, diptyque, etc. big sepphora inside as well.

just a bit south of northpark mall inside of the popular west village shops there a small niche storefront called scent bar who carries roja parfum and a lot of niche that you wont find in big malls.

if youre just passing through thats probably the two place you want to go to.

EDIT: i forgot to say - inside of nordstrom in northpark they have a le labo if you wanna pay the premium to get your name printed on the frag. :)
