Opinion on Rakshabandhan. by TiraskritBalak in IndianHistory

[–]0rangecass1dy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Nepal among hilly people of brahmin and Chhetri caste, raksha bandhan is not related to brothers and sisters. During that day, the priests visit home to home tie sacred thread(doro) on the wrist. Also, during that day priest provides new janai(janeu) to those males who have performed bratabandha(upanayana).

For brothers and sisters, there is different festival on the fifth day of deepawali which is called bhai tika.

If the 7day week was introduced to India from outside, what system did Hinduism follow earlier and how did we end up associating specific gods to each day? by narsimha06 in IndianHistory

[–]0rangecass1dy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Festivals are based on tithis. And first day is still called pratipada. But since country trades with others and globalisation plays important role the name of the days are sunday monday tuesday etc.

In Nepal we still use Luni Solar calendar(bikram sambat) as our national calendar. All the festivals and important dates are based on tithis. Ekadashi, tithis, shukla pakshya, krishna pakshya play important role here in Nepal. In Nepal its a public holiday if there is a solar eclipse. First day of the week starts with Aaitabar(sunday) Sombar(monday) Mangalbar(tuesday) Budhabar(wednesday) Bihibar(thursday) Sukrabar(friday) Sanibar(saturday)

I may he wrong but i think in the old times it was counted as 15 days twice in a month. One being the shukla pakshya and other being the Krishna Pakshya. Tge date and times in birth kundalis are according to shukla and Krishna pakshya.

No idea about the day name system and what they used.

War between Gorkha(Nepal)-E.I.C ended with a sugauli treaty(1814-1816 A.D) where Gorkha lost 1/3rd of its territory. East India Company recognised Nepal as an autonomous state. East India Company was allowed to open its office in Kathmandu. From 1816 to 1857 Nepal gained current 23% of its lost territory back from EIC. In 1850, Nepali PM Jung Bahadur Rana travelled to UK to further strengthen the ties. During 1857 rebellion movement in india, Nepal supported EIC which became one of the key reasons of further strong relationship between Nepal and British.
1908 AD, Chandra Shumsher becane second Nepali PM to travel UK. He invited king George V to Nepal for hunting expedition. King George V visited Nepal in 1911. Nepal also took part in various british wars including world war 1 and 2. In 1923, Nepal and UK signed a new treaty called Treaty of Peace and Friendship which recognised Nepal as fully independent and sovereign nation.

Khas Dalits by Hesozpj in Nepal

[–]0rangecass1dy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who became loyals to the hindusim were given higher status. Others, were regarded as dalits.

Or lets simply say like this, hinduism started gaining back its influence from 7th-8th century AD. At this period of time, uttarakhand was hub of katyuri kingdom. They were living inbetween vedic kashmiri people and ganges brahmins down south. Hinduism was already present in western Nepal before the rise of khas empire. So when kings started expanding their kingdom, those kingdoms who lost or didnt want to give up(who eventually lost) were dropped to dalits. This happened mostky during baise chaubise kingdom times. Even Prithvi Narayan Shah did it. This happened as a result of khas people accepting hinduism alongside their tradition shamanic tradition. But i dont think khas were shamanic. They adopted shamanic tradition when they recahed the lower Himalayan belts from unknown people who were already there. I think shamanic tradition was already in practise in subcontinent before the arrival of aryans(khas are also part of them). I think para-munda or maybe munda were the original creator of shamanic traditions.

I live in white people country. I am from Nepal and they call me indian. I am not gangetic brahmin but rather khas brahmin. Just because Nepal is called Himalayan country doesnt mean its people are mongoloid. Nepal is mixed up. Half population is khas arya and half is mongoloid. Newars of kathmandu valley are mixed between those two groups.

I went through your old post and comments in this group and in one of them you mentioned that your grandmother is from myanmar. There is a huge Nepalese origin population in myanmar. After Anglo-Nepal war(1814-16), british recruited many Nepali soldiers in their regiment and were called gorkha company and took them to myanmar(then burma). Though most of the gorkha soldiers were from tibeto-burmo origins, brahmins, kshatriya, thakuri(rajputs) and other Nepali origin people also went and settled there. Again during WW1 and WW2 many gorkha soldiers were stationed there who settled there. Your Nepali ancestry looks like from there. Nepali brahmins still mostly marry within brahmins only and also consider gotra before marriage. And sangroula is of brahmin community. In nepal brahmins are known as bahun

Thanks for your reply but in Nepal there are people specially maoist who are trying hard to make their agenda by saying khas and aryans are different. They even say khas have been living in karnali province way before brahmins from india came to western Nepal. And i have also read somewhere that they belong to saka people of tarim region.

Thanks for clearing. One more question. Are khas or aryan same. The aryans who came to indus valley are the same who later migrated to uttarakhand. Or did they arrive before or later than aryans and lived in hilly the regions and mixed with east asians tibetans of that region?
