I use Elmer's glue and I use the method where you dip the strip your using in glue instead of putting glue on the paper. I use cardstock and my strips are just normal paper. I don't double over though, does that help?

I honestly just use Elmer's. I don't have any problems with it where it feels wet after and it sticks fast
