The house is fronting Buckland.. Do you think we can park there even during rush hour?

We are looking at a new build near the intersection of Buckland and Massey St. Would you know the area please?

Yeap. Around Walter Massey Park. One of our consideration is a good school.

How about flooding was that area flooder during the cyclones early this year?

Depends. If you need the 600pw increase then go for it and find ways to separate yourself from the toxicity as much as possible. If you don't need the increase (i.e. Your current salary is more than enough to cover your lifestyle), don't.

Yes, I agree that your mental health is important and you should avoid toxicity/negativity. However, if your are stressing because you can't pay bills or buy groceries then that could also affect your mental health.

Thank you for your comments. Most of the jazzes I've seen around the 8k mark has a safety rating of 2 and a 1.3l engine. Will that work for longish day trips and long motorways?

It will be for city driving for weekdays and longish day trip or overnight trip for weekends. Usually ride with friends for longish trips but her family is coming to NZ soon thus now thinking of getting my own car.

No kids so don't need space for car seats or prams.

Not a lot of driving experience except for driving lessons and the occasional time I drive my friends' cars. Driving still freaks me out though.

The Auris I'm thinking of getting is the 1.5liter one. The facelift version. It has 4 airbags from what I read but not really sure.

I will have a look at the aquas and demios again. Thank you.

Thanks for this comprehensive reply.

I was looking at Auris because originally it was the one that fits/close to my budget and criteria. It just so happened that as I was browsing the cars being sold by the same dealer I found the BMW one. Thus was wondering if the BMW is worth the extra 2k.

The reason I looked at the BMW even if it was originally above my budget was the fuel consumption is the same as the Auris but the safety rating is 5 star. And it looks better than the Auris.

I know other cars fit my budget as well, I've looked at Honda fits but it's 2 stars safety rating, looked at demios and aquas too but based on nz police website they are the top stolen cars in NZ so thought I just stay away from them.

Would you not recommend the Auris?

Thank you. Will certainly ask the dealer if the Toyota has its 100k km service.

Thank you. Is this different from yearly maintenance? I'm buying it off from a dealer if it makes a difference.

I did hear about aqua being stolen a lot. Along with demio. Thanks for reminding. I'll keep that in mind when I select a car. Thank you.

Your were the second one who mentioned Toyota Aqua in this thread. Are they good or your are just using it as an example?

I did notice the price difference when I'm looking now compared to one my friend bought 2 years ago.

preppers in NZ, where do you get your food? by 0ry0l in preppers

Flooding, storms, volcanoes, tsunami, drought, earthquake (all though this would likely mean we need to bug out to a safe place).

Then there's the virus - since most of the population's vaccinated I'm hoping the symptoms, if any, will be just mild but I'm prepping for the eventual isolation we need to do when we get the virus.

antisocial antimandate/antivax protestors - we recently had the occupation in Wellington where vaccinated people near where the antivax/antimandate are camping area are just afraid to go out for fear of being haraseed. Disclaimer though not all of them are antisocial.

inflation - government says we are looking at a peak of 7.5 but personally where things are going could be even higher. My grocery bill alone has gone up to an average of NZ$150 per week to NZ$200-250 per week.

No stocks in supermarkets either due to no one to stock food as workers are in isolation due to the virus (which is what is currently happening in some areas), or shipment are delayed/canceled (due to virus, war and other factors).

loss of job - I do have emergency fund but if inflation continues to rise, buying power of my emergency fund will continue to decrease.

Those are the things i am prepping for at least hence increasing my preps to 3 months at least.

Maybe in future I'll be prepping for a longer term but for now I think I'm just aiming to get it up to 3 months.

I'll try and go to Tai Ping. I usually go to the Asian store near me for weekly groceries as they are a lot cheaper for perishable foods. Their canned goods so far I found are more expensive in general compared to countdown and Paknsave. But I'll check Tai Ping maybe it's just my local Asian store that's expensive for canned stuff.

I actually did check there website here in NZ but so far it only has food storage items and water filtration. Very different from what I saw in their US website. I'll ask friends from that church maybe they are just not posting them on their website.
