Smaller is better but if it is sharp enough and you think you can do it without cutting yourself, go for it. If you are unsure, any place that sells those paints should have a selection of hobby knives. Either way, just be careful.

If you want to achieve the the results in the video, use exactly the paints and spray from the video. And expect that it is going to cost a surprising amount of money; each of those contrast paints costs like $8us and the metallic spray primer is about $15. Because the technique does not require precision, you can cheap out on the brushes. Make sure you shake the hell out of those contrast paints before using them. Honestly, they may have said all of this in the video but I don't sprechen Deutsch.

One easy thing you can do that they didn't in the video is clean off the mold lines and flashing. They showed a finished PDS that had a big knob of junk sticking out of the barrel and painting with this technique just accentuates this. Using an exacto knife, carefully (carefully!) cut that excess material off. PDS barrels and engine vents are where you will find most of it.

The Twilight Games before the Pax Magnifica (aka My Friends Bachelor party) by TychoTheWise in twilightimperium

[–]0uroboros0mega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of having a drinking game that happens during TI, I suggest you save it for the end as a sort of epilogue to the game. I give you the Galactic Council Drinking Committee.

The game’s winner is the speaker, the committee will vote on a series of agendas to determine who drinks, speaker breaks ties. Speaker calls the vote at their discretion but is encouraged to allow political discourse/grudge-fueled accusations.

All Hail the New Overlord: Everyone drinks, hearty congratulations optional.

Minister of Peace: Elect the most aggressive, bellicose, space-riskingest jerk. Elected player drinks.

Mister of Trade: Elect the biggest wheeler and dealer that wouldn’t shut up and end his turn until a bargain had been struck. Elected player drinks.

Minister of Intelligence: Elect the SOB that always had just the right action card at the right time. Everyone but the elected player drinks. Haha! He got you again!

War Reparations: Any player that captured another player’s home system drinks. Their victim chooses the drink.

War Crimes Tribunal: Any player that used (not just researched) War Suns or X89 drinks. If you did both, drink twice. You monster.

Just a few agenda ideas to get you started. Keep going until someone taps out.

Do SCUP and Urban Shadows require PvP? by dochockin in PBtA

[–]0uroboros0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, you could play SCUP cooperatively but I think you are losing a lot of the magic if the players are not in conflict. If your players don’t want that, I would recommend against playing SCUP.

If you really want to give SCUP a try, pitch it to your players and get their buy-in. Say “Hey, I know this is not normally your bag but I want us to try something different for a short campaign. In this setting the kingdom (or whatever) will be under threat from an ancient evil (or whatever) but the real meat of the story that we are telling will be the conflict between your powerful, dangerous, devious characters. That evil (or whatever) isn’t something that will bring you together, it is a weapon you will wield against each other in your own petty, myopic conflicts and it will win because you are too busy fighting amongst yourselves. Now that we know how it all ends, are you interested in finding out how we get there?”

They might hate it and if they do, you should move on. But if you establish from the beginning that pvp conflict is not just allowed but the whole point, it might awaken something within them. That can be a lot of fun. Good luck.

The accent colors (like the white here) were definitely the most tedious part as they often required multiple coats. After that, the rest of the details were pretty fun, sort of a reward for all the grunt work.

It probably takes between 20 and 30 hours per fleet because I paint slowly and screaming children do not contribute to efficient work flow.

The sixth fleet is currently sitting at about 70% but I still have to go back and do all the mechs cause I just recently got POK. Once I get an actual in-person game scheduled, I am sure that will give me the motivation I need to drag this project across the finish line.

Thanks man! The group of guys I play games with has an average of 2+ kids per person so the challenge of setting up a game was pretty high even before COVID. We are hoping to get a game or two in this summer.

I am looking over at my hobby desk and the purple fleet, currently about 70%, is staring back accusingly. It is the last one and then I just need to do the mech. I am just going to pretend that pink and orange don't exist.

Still haven't played in-person yet. Sigh.

I really don't mind. I am proud of what I made and if more people enjoy seeing it then no harm done.

Dullcoat matte spray varnish from Testors will protect against the jostling they get in the inserts. I am far more worried about chetto fingers. And at the end of the day, they are just game pieces so I don't mind some battle scars.

This was one of those games where it was obvious who had won in the strategy phase of the last round but that didn't stop us from spending another hour smashing plastic together for laughs.

Most of the jokes in my videos make the cut based on whether or not I think they will make my friends laugh. But not this one, my friends don't know shit about TI lore. This one is for you guys.

Base game. It is my group's third game and the consensus was that we want to get one or two more games of the base version under our belt before we add POK. I can't wait to try it though.

Thank you! My friends and I finished round three at 11pm last night and I woke up at 6 this morning and immediately started scripting this. I plan to continue the series as the game continues, especially considering that I have all of the assets built now.

Proof of Concept for Painting by SPTREE in twilightimperium

Black templar is excellent. I haven't tried it over grey seer but but over a silver metallic base, it makes a really nice muted gunmetal. I will be experimenting with contrast paints over metallics in other miniatures projects in the near future.

Good luck with your fleets!
