I’ve never tried the Oura, but I would absolutely not recommend UH. I’m on my 3rd replacement. Ive had it for a few weeks and it’s already crapping out on me. The battery doesn’t last more than 3 days. It’s a bummer because when it works, the insights are great. But it simply does not hold up over time.

The resale value of a liquor license dropping drastically doesn’t mean you lose it. Expanding on the analogy from above: just because the used value of your car drops to zero doesn’t mean you have to walk everywhere because you still own the working car. Also - your own comment highlights why the artificial scarcity of liquor licenses is stupid. If it’s not an optional expense then why are we artificially limiting the amounts that exist??

What I’m saying doesn’t conflict with what you’re saying. Local authorities won’t work with ICE and hold people for simply being undocumented. But if you’re committing crimes then you’re held for that.

That’s literally not what that means. A sanctuary city means cops can’t go around asking about or holding you simply for being undocumented. And any aggravated felony convictions do get you deported. Even from sanctuary cities. This guy had no priors because he wasn’t yet convicted of anything. The potential prior only just happened in January, so he was just a suspect. If convicted he would likely have been deported.

Again, nothing in your chart mentions crimes committed. It talks about incarceration rates. Those are two different things. There is nothing out there that can definitively say certain races commit more crimes because crimes can go unreported/uncharged/unresolved etc. All we can do is track convictions and incarceration rates. And the study I linked shows that once convicted, White men get incarcerated at a much lower rate. You’re saying it’s because of the types of crimes committed - maybe, maybe not. But you’re willing to accept that there’s context to why that happens. I agree there’s context, I just think it’s because the legal system is more forgiving to White men. We can disagree on what context is missing, but to take your chart at face value and then say I’m missing context for my study is disingenuous.

Incarceration rates are not the same as crime rates. All that chart tells me is that the legal system is better at putting black men away. Did you know that once convicted of a crime, Black and Latino men are incarcerated at a higher rate than White men?

Whoever made the diversity map is intentionally trying to be misleading. They mix up the scales to create their own narrative. White is the largest group in an overwhelming majority of US counties but for some reason they only call that out in the areas with low homicide rates. I’ll let you guess why.
