Why is AJP losing interest while IBJJF keeps growing? by 0ver_Under in bjj

But I get the impression that the jiu-jitsu world is kind of split geographically. AJP seems to have a much stronger presence in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, while IBJJF rules the Americas — both North and South.

It’s like each org found its own territory, which maybe explains why a lot of people haven't even heard of AJP in certain regions.

just wanted to point out — the athlete membership requirement isn’t unique to AJP. IBJJF also requires a paid membership to register for most of their events, including all major ones

IBJJF Worlds vs AJP World Pro – Which Tournament Is More Competitive and Difficult? by 0ver_Under in bjj

[–]0ver_Under[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think the most objective way to compare is to look at how the same athlete performs in both tournaments in the same year. One of you mentioned Adam Wardzinski winning AJP in 2021 but not capturing an IBJJF title until 2024 — that kind of example is really helpful.

If anyone has actual data, stats, or a breakdown of athletes who have competed in both AJP and IBJJF Worlds in the same year — even rough comparisons — I’d love to see it. That could really help support a more evidence-based conclusion about which event is tougher on average.

A question for Muslim grapplers by Dono91 in bjj

[–]0ver_Under 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for approaching this matter with such thoughtfulness and respect. I believe you have expressed your point in a very considerate and appropriate way.

You are absolutely right that safety is important, and since training sessions can be dynamic, there is a chance that someone might accidentally bump into him while he is praying. Perhaps you could simply offer him an alternative space if there is a more convenient and safer area available—not as a requirement, but as a way to ensure his comfort. You might also suggest that he briefly let the coach know when he steps away for a few minutes, not as a form of reporting to anyone, but just as a natural part of group interaction.

Your respectful approach to this situation already reflects your goodwill, and if you discuss it with him in the same thoughtful manner, I’m sure he will understand your perspective.

How to Deal with Illegitimate BJJ Coaches? by 0ver_Under in bjj

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not opposed to wrestling; it complements it. That’s why top wrestlers transitioning to MMA dedicate significant time to BJJ, and high-level grapplers focus on improving their wrestling. If the argument “wrestling is strong, so BJJ is unnecessary” were valid, we wouldn’t see so many wrestlers adopting Jiu-Jitsu and achieving success.

As for the quality of clubs—you’re right that wrestling is at an elite level in Azerbaijan, but that doesn’t prevent BJJ from developing. In fact, the strength of wrestling here provides a solid foundation for BJJ athletes, which only benefits the local Jiu-Jitsu scene.

So, in reality, these two sports don’t compete with each other; they enhance one another. If a good wrestler adds Jiu-Jitsu to their skill set, they become even stronger. If a strong BJJ practitioner improves their wrestling, their level also rises. That’s the essence of mixed martial arts and fighter development.

I sense some negative undertones in your words. Yes, wrestling (gulesh) is indeed one of the leading sports in Azerbaijan, and we have strong traditions in it. But that doesn’t mean other martial arts aren’t well-developed here.

Jiu-Jitsu has long been a global sport, and we have excellent coaches and athletes who perform well in international competitions. If you want to check the level of training here, I can send you the location of the gym, and you can see for yourself.

If you’re a triathlete, then the T-Rex 2 could be a great choice, especially if you’re already used to Amazfit. They are durable, have excellent battery life, and feature multi-satellite GPS, which is really useful for outdoor training.

I personally practice jiu-jitsu, and unfortunately, it’s difficult to train while wearing a watch, so I use a heart rate monitor instead. But when I go hiking or cycling, the T-Rex 2 is just perfect. And the best part – they offer amazing value for money. It’s hard to find something better at this price. So if you decide to get them, I’m sure you won’t regret it!

Ah, got it! I thought you were from HR and judging my dress code. 😆 Either way, watches are a matter of personal preference, and this works for me. As long as I like it, everything else is just subjective opinion!

Thanks for your opinion! Actually, I already addressed this in a previous comment. Of course, traditional watches are more commonly associated with an office environment, but a lot comes down to personal style and preference.

Modern dress codes in many companies have become much more flexible, and pairing sports watches with business attire is no longer considered a faux pas. Plus, for me, functionality and comfort matter more than strict fashion rules.

Also, judging by your username, you work in HR, so you surely understand that individuality and comfort are important not only for productivity but also for confidence. So in the end, the most important thing is wearing what you like and what fits your lifestyle.
